Was looking this porty over on Baily's website. Anyone tried one? How does it compare to the port-a-wrap III? The ICS porty is like $110 cheaper.
That picture looks almost identical to pictures I've seen alongside the Porta wrap III saying "this is the old or out dated or obsolete version and is no longer available". Only difference I think is that 90 degree bend on the small bend? I have the large alum. esp. like it when taking aloft. Very light, works great. Good Luck
You take the port a wrap into the tree with you ???
ISC makes good equipment, I would trust it.
If anyone is talking to Tom D., he is a freind of D. Moorehouse who started ISC, I don't know if he is still involved, or just runs DMM now.
Thanks for correcting my mistake John. Must have had a lysdexic moment when I posted this, it is indeed the ISC porty that I am referring to.
It was invented by Dave Spencer and Lorne Eide from Toronto.
I did not even realize you'd done it.
BTW I have breifly used the prototype when the designers had it at a few trade shows.
I guess Tom D. is not posting here anymore, again.
Pardon the artwork!
I've used a port-a-wrap in the tree a few dozen times. Here's how I rig it so I can un-hook the piece once it's on the ground. If you are by yourself you learn to be careful about the lowered piece trapping your rope. There is also a two to one mechanical advantage gained in this system but it doesn't count for much....it's just a by product of rigging so the climber can un-hook the piece without assistance.
The port-a-wrap is great in this application and is easy to tie off.
Doing boom work I've used a port-a-wrap to lower pieces when I feel the lowering point would be more likely to fail using a block and it's associated 2/1 loading. Not something I do a lot but I have used it. From the boom if a lowering point fails it just results in property damage so the edge can be pushed a lot further than when climbing, IMO.
Come on guys, you aren't supposed to be doing tree work alone!
Oh. Well its to late now.
