I've done tree work for 7 years. Paying attention and learning every step of the way. I now work 2nd shift as a custodian ( it's guaranteed 40 hrs + bennies and year round work) I can't seem to get the tree work out of my blood I'm hooked!! It's something I enjoy and take seriously. I'm looking to acquire insurance. Any suggestions? Or tips ?

Wow, no help from anyone?? I just came from ban camp so let me be of assistance..

I got my insurance by... googling other companies in my area.. viewing their certificate online and then calling the company.. easy. Get a few quotes, they all pretty much cost the same but one wanted it all basically upfront but another financed me.

Hey there squirrelman, if you don't mind throwing the numbers out what are we talkin? I work full time 6-7 months out of the year for a residential tree service company and just recently was pondering this question to cover myself and a partner for off season/side jobs... If you have it could ya tell us about what the monthly/annual costs are, ballpark is still a help. Not tryin to put ya on the spot. I will do what you said though. That's good advice. Thanks for responding to the OP! I hate when I post a Q and get zero replies...:frown:

my tree guy has had his for 20 years with one claim. Was 900 last year and went to 1800 this year no real reason other than its insurance.

Ha, yea! No reason needed and no explanation given, I'm sure! It's insurance, it costs whatever they say it does and nothin you can do about it! Shopping around probably won't help much cause they're all in cahoots with each other! They got us by the short and curlys'. Ahhrg!:msp_angry:

Well thanks for dropping some numbers, gives me some idea of what I'm lookin at.

Another thing is that my insurance is through State Farm (everything) but they will not write a commercial tree policy. So when I do get enough equipment to start doing the bigger removals myself I will have to get a new company to write mine. I expect to pay $2000, since I am new and it will be a year or 2.

You said it though, there's no wiggle and no escape from there pinch. We might as well just let them bill out and pay us whats left.
Vehicle (personal and commercial)
Health
Liability
Homeowners
and soon another liability

Maybe tree work is the wrong job we should all just start selling policies.
