I had decided to get a Boxer, and at the last minute I realized the dealer selling it to me wasn't exactly tell me the whole truth on the unit I was purchasing.
Anyway, I kinda have a bad taste in my mouth about Boxer just because of how he misled me. I know it's only one bad apple, but I can't help feeling the way I do. I know there a great unit, but now I'm seriously considering Bobcat. I've read everything you've said about yours and I think I would get great service from the local Bobcat dealer.
I'm a small timer like you. Would you buy the 52 or the 55? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go back and get the boxer, the bobcat sucks. what was the dealer misleading you about?

I know your feeling. My dealer did the same to me twice. He is in Atlanta, Ga. I ended up going straight to compact power to get mine and love it. To me the only other mini that even comes close is the Ditch Witch. I tested them all. The Ditch Witch is awesome but it does not have the ability to go from wide to narrow like the Boxer. The Boxer 526 is defininately the way to go.

I went with the MT52 soley due to the fact that I need to get thru a 36in gate. I have had no problems with this machine and I am aproaching 300 hrs. I couldnt go with a boxer cuz there aint no dealers anywhere and if something breaks I dont want to wait 4 weeks for parts and pay ridiculous shipping charges. The boxers do have a helluva lift capacity tho.

Sorry, Codog, for not replying sooner. I'm going through a remodel from hell at my house and haven't been on this site for a couple of weeks.

Honestly, I was closely looking at buying a boxer 526 myself during the April sales event but didn't because I didn't get my bobcat mt-50 sold in time. I had a lot of calls on it from out-of-state buyers but no takers. Now, I'm just going to use it for another season and maybe look at advertising it again this winter.

I like the specs on the boxers. I've never demo'd one but, on paper, they look like a great machine. At a $5k discount during April, it was a no-brainer if I could have gotten my bobcat sold.

That said, the only reason I was looking to sell my bobcat was to get a little bit bigger machine. If I was going to stay with bobcat, I would go with an Mt-52. IMO, the mt55 offers very little more power or lift cabability than the mt-52 plus the mt55 won't fit through a 36" gate. Honestly, for the money, a well-maintained mt-50 would suit you just as well as an mt52 or mt55.

If you need more power or lift capacity, I would look at Boxer or Ditch Witch. Until vermeer comes out with a new model, I would steer clear as I have heard that, while they have wonderful ergonomics and controls, they are absolutely gutless...

Thanks for responding. I did end up getting the 52. It has 240 hours on it and it's in pretty good shape. Got it for $9,000 with a bucket. The grapple coming in next week adds another $2,200. My groundie liked the Boxer a lot more, but what I saw, the Bobcat could do what I needed it to. I like the Kubota diesel and I felt like I could put an inexperienced guy on the Bobcat. I definitely think the steering is 100% better on the Bobcat. I hope I don't regret my decision down the road.
Another important thing is I paid cash for the Bobcat. I would have had to borrow for the Bobcat, and there's not to many establishments I hate more then the banking/lending/credit crooks.

You'll like the bobcat. Tell your groundie that, if he doesn't like it, he can always drag the debris out by hand... :)

What kind of grapple did you order - the branch manager?

No, I didn't get the Branch manager. I just ordered the standard root grapple. Thats what I had on my Kubota tractor and was pretty happy with it.
The dealer is leaving the grapple thats on it until the new one comes in. It's a standard bucket with tines that come down. I don't like it at all.
One thing I'm concerned about is the hoses dangling the way they do. Their as short as possible, but when that grapple is open, it sure does seem like there's too much hose exposed and when it's closed, it seems like there's not enough.
I like your setup. The salesman said he can get me a set of tracks for $337 a side. He said this price is good for 30 days.
I think your right, I'll be happy with my decision.

If you guys have dealers (Boxer or Powerhouse )not treating you like they should or they are lieing to you ,give this fellow a call. Roger Braswell. He owns Boxer and is a great fellow. The guy paid his dues the way most of us have so he understands hard work and honesty. I dont think he would put up with any crap dealers. I hate to hear that he lost a sale of his equipment because of this.

Misled

Someone asked me what he misled me about. He said he took it out on a couple demos and he said it had less then 20 hours on it. I don't think this guy even realized it has a small hour gauge which you kinda have to look for. It was out in the rain when I first seen it so I didn't look too closely. He brought it to my house the following weekend so I could use it for a day and I noticed the gauge with, if I remember right, just short of 200 hours, and a couple big gashes in the tracks which he told me were like new. I also notice the oil filter was completely rusted; like the motor had gotten really hot. It sounded fine, but that scared me a little. Also, when he quoted me a price, it was right after the sale took effect. He knocked off a about $1500 bucks, but that was still more then a brand new one with the discounts Boxer was offering.
I got the impression the guy was a con, who became a Boxer dealer without knowing anything about them. Kinda like a used car dealer who knows nothing about cars, but has a good personality.
