Are saws just a winter hobby for you or year 'round?

I will only chat about chainsaws during the WINTER.

When spring comes, I will be sawing. Getting my Lawn tractors going, planting trees, planting my larger than average vegetable garden etc.

I have fruit trees, tame blackberry vines, flower beds, etc.

I used to race mini sprints and a few others, but when my baby Samantha was born it was time to look for another passion. I cut my teeth working on cars. When I bought my first house, it has a fireplace, so I bought a saw to cut wood with. Then another, and another. Next is a 361. I go out to my garage every night and start all my saws, looking for a reason to use them. I even carry one in my Knaack toolbox "just in case". Yeah, its an every day thing.

I saw throught the year, but i prefer cutting in summer more than winter...

What kind of a guy would hang a saw over his bed.
This is the first year that I did not cut all year in the last three years.
I stoped at the end of dec and will start up in april full bore.
I ran out of wood to sell to soon.

I only buy chainsaws I need. I can quite buying and tinkering any time I just do it because I like it.
Year round.Wife's trying to get rustic furniture going. Take out a few trees a year for friends or neighbors, and cut as much fire wood as I can.

Yeah right sweetie, he got me started on this whole thing!
We talk chainsaws until the kids get their eyes a rollin'. They think we are the two weirdest people they know. That is normal right?
Okay we don't have to many yet I figured today we need at least two more maybe three and a mill to go along with the big saws.
Anyway I pretty much could use mine all the time if time allowed. Work does seem to get in the way. :bang:

I have the sickness year round, we heat with wood so its a semi sensible hobby.

The wife gets distressed some times, but I remind her I used to fix up and thrash dirt bikes and quads.

I had six, now Im down to one bike.

Then it was compact tractors, I still have five of them but we use them, so shes OK with this. I even let her crash, Erm, drive them, less work for me.

She prefers the saws, hard to crash a saw and nearly imposable to jump one, plus they dont leave big gobs of dirt in the driveway.

I think she needs a bike........

year round for me but its hit or miss, I mill custom beams with the csm and occasionally drop trees for friends, carry a small one when we`re out fourwheeling/camping/hunting etc....

I cut more in the fall/winter because that's when I usually can make money with my saws as a firewood guy. I love to cut year round though if I have half an excuse. Its just hard here in Florida to do much of any kind of physical work during the summer during the heat of the day. That heat a lot of you all were complaining about last year, and some folks were chalking up to global warming...that's normal here in Florida. In late June, July, August, and early September, just about every day is 90 and up and the heat index is usually in the 95-105* range. Those hard working men and women who make a living in these conditions definitely have my respect as I am gassed, drained and queasy after about 1/2 hour of sawing, lawn mowing or similar work.

Pretty much year round

I heat with wood also, and in order to stay on top of things and insure an adequate supply for the season it is an ongoing thing throughout the year.
An added benefit is that there is usually four or five of us in the woodlot cutting, so you get the comaraderie thing going on. LOTS of yuckin it up.
it's almost as hard talkin over a saw as it is when going down the road on a motorcycle.

I do most of my firewood cutting in the winter do to the critter and sweat factor. I don't like to sweat and I hate ticks and chiggars, but they love me.

I like the fall/winter/spring time best myself, the heat is the biggie for me. I will do the occasional tree job if need be, but I mostly cut firewood. I give it away to old people and sell to whoever wants it. Other than that i love hanging out with the boys, seeing who can cut cookies the thinnest or quickest!

We use the saw during winter for next year's firewood. Use it a little in the summer, but not that much.

As for hobbies, I'm more into growing many varieties of potatoes and taking care of apple trees during summer. We have like 20 varieties of potatoes and some 15 apple varieties.

depends

if it gets to be an issue i'll see about setting up a twelve step group for it.

as far as year round vs winter... i'd say it depends on how long it takes me to find a part. and when i scout out a resource... well its easier to haul some of the stuff out when the ground has thawed.. past mud season in maine.

Same here, cutting firewood for 4 houses, sometime whit 2 of my brother's and a friend, cutting mush alone but mostly whit some help to clean up. A little use in the summer for pruning trees. And I don't think that's a hobby, but modding mufflers and rebuilding saw's can be more like a year 'round hobby.
