this is a true story.
my grandparents were godfather and godmother to this guy.
one day his mother and him had a huge fight. she cursed him. she wished for him to come home in a blanket. he was cutting wood for a living in the forest near the village I have my summer cottage.

at the end of the day he was brought home in a blanket. forever to stay in an wheel chair.
after that he earned his living spending all day in the truck parking lot.
we were in full communism glory and there was no foreign products.
he was taking alcohol and sweets from truckers and selling them from his window.
as kids we thought it was cool to have a such godson...
don`t know why I remembered this just now......

I have to ask for forgiveness from the tree and give it pat on the bark.
Dendropsychosis is what it is called. Our relationship with trees. Reality?:dunno:

I had to care for a 8' dia White Oak. Dieing for years from construction damage, Gypsy Moth and what also looked like a lightning strike.

Pruned it one year big dead wood, no spikes, no top rope and it it almost killed me. No Blood, no foul, right?

3 years later asked me to CTG.

Huge notch, two pull lines one to the truck and one to Good Rig, couple feet into the back cut the chain dulled. I hit some metal but not hard metal. went through another chain and then my ripping chain to finish the cut.

Took all we had between the truck and the good rig to snap what was about the size of 4x4.

But man, soon as that tree hit the ground, mother nature blew in a storm. Sky turned black, wind howled and the snow and ice pelts came so fast and hard at us it felt like we were being mald by an Ice Dragon. It lasted for about 10 minutes and then the sky opened up and sun came out.

Absolutely crazy experience for me and two other emplyees.
It was like moma nature wanted to let us know who is actually in charge.

You know the saying go for the brass ring, well that is what I hit in the tree, brass eye bolt and brass ring attached.

Superstitious enough to keep me alive I guess.
Religious yes, born that way. monkey:

bad vibes, no cut

Man, I pay attention to see how things "feel". I always have so many projects it doesn't matter to me if some job gets postponed or not. I just pay attention to the real subtle stuff. Saved my bacon any number of times..

Oncet I am out cutting by myself with my bucksaw. I am sawing away then this huge feeling of outright dread hit...it was profound...so much so I dropped the saw and scooted a dozen feet away, then turned and stared all around, like some goblin was sneaking up on me or something. I was looking and looking..felt danger..saw nothing..

WHOMP! about 150lb branch landed smack dab where I had been standing. I did NOT see it, and I looked previously, I always look up for dangerous hangers and so on.

You tell me, guardian angel, whatever..but all I had was that feeling,,get out..move..now! So I did.

Stuff like that, tons of them, proly too many..

I don't think it is superstitious more than it is some really advanced physics we don't have a handle on yet. Some call it a sixth sense, or like I said a guardian angel, who knows, but it IS real. And I appreciate it...

Guardian Angel

I forget sometimes but I was named after my Uncle Thomas, he died as a toddler. Also my wifes father Patrick a truly noble gentleman, A cheiftain in nature. I am sure lead me to the RopeKnight and seems to find his way into a few of my dreams(acedemic in nature) school stuff. He was a well loved teacher His retirement party crowded a highschool gymnasium, his present and past student were in tears.Who knows really what this is all about but so far this is pretty cool thread. and brings up memories of all of lifes surprises, hope to live thru a few more.
