was out at my moms woods this morning just walking around and I noticed that alot of the ash trees leaves are dead brown and dried up but still on the branches.. But its only on one side of three different trees and then the younger ash trees that are only ten feet or so tall all the leaves are dead on them.. its not the normal fall leaves turn yellow then fall off these look like the tree is dead and the leaves just turned brown and dried up... is this normal of ash trees or is something else going on...

Better start looking for these little guys....

thats what im afraid of is the ash bore but it has been in the 90's for the past month here and only rained a little bit twice in that time but its just strange all the maple and oak trees are green as can be the ash arent doing so well..

I've got cottonwood and wild blackcherry that are dropping leaves because of heat stress but they are'nt in a canopy, they are in the yard and exposed to a lot of heat. Probably should check for critters.

When it comes to heat and dehydration stress, I have noticed the same species on the same acre showing different shades in the leaves depending on the location of the tree on that particuliar lot and how good or bad the drainage is and or if the tree is younger and has better shade. I have not come across EAB in my part of Mo. however it was located in the NE part of the state last year. From my understanding the crown is the first to show the symptoms. I have noticed sudden death of Ash trees in the past not related to EAB, but I'm not sure what the disease or cause of that is.

Where in Indiana are you?

I know exactly what your talking about and while I don't have a solution, didn't see any ash borer on the ones I've been around. If I remember correctly they were dead on the side facing east.

Yeah where are you? Did the leaves start coming off the trees from the canopy down? If so probably the borer.

Im in southern IN about 30 mins south of columbus..and yes it was the east side of the trees that had died off now that u mention it..as far as where it started Im not sure for its been a while since I looked around but its dead from top branch to bottom as far as leaves (still atached) go on the east side of the tree..
