Hello Everyone, I have a 1986 Asplundh Whisper Chipper Ford straight 6 300ci. The noise coming from the drum bearings is really really loud. I dont have the time or patience to sit there and pull the machine apart to do my self, And I dont even know where to get the bearings. Does anyone know around how much it cost to have them replaced? And where about I can take it? Im From right outside Philadelphia, PA. Anything input would help me here, I cant find anyone who will work on them and or is able to get parts for them. Will put picture of machine below. Thanks all!!

This can be a project for any dealer who sells and repairs chippers. I might be able to help you with the bearings. I will need to know if they are pillow block or flange bearings. I would also need to know the drum shaft size and the bolt hole center to center if they're flange bearings. This is about a 5-8 hour job as the bearings will need to be cut off the shaft. Please understand that the bearings might be proprietary to Asplundh only.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dave

5-8 hour if it all goes smooth and you have help and don't break the tapered bushings which are quite fragile. The Bearings are standard and can be sourced at a industrial bearing warehouse. I think I paid about 200 ea.

chipper

hey
yes he is correct the bearings run around 200. i am in the middle of doing mine right now i got the bearings from california and the hub that broke in the flywheel cost 140.00 which i got right here locally as it is a f3 bushing which the guy said is a common one. its def. not a simple job and i dont think it will be cheap to get it done.

hey

well actually no blood BUT WAY WAY WAY TO MUCH SWEAT AND TEARS!!!!!!!
Grump,

It seems that you were able to separate the bushing. The big questions is, how much blood, sweat, and tears went in to this project?
