Jack is auctioning a 3' Mac bar and sending some of the proceeds to a family in need.

I'm going to contact him and see if there is anything I can throw in to sweeten the pot.

Sounds like the family is really having a rough go.

Here are the details:

I know a lot of you fellas like to snipe this kinda stuff. . . But, if there is ever a good reason to have a bidding war, this would be it. :)

A lot of you guys have dealt with Jack in the past, and perhaps it was a great experience, or perhaps it wasn't. . . But to those who are airing your displeasure in a gossip like way -- you are wrong. You are wrong to take something that was a two party contract, and make the world party to it. If you were unhappy with your dealing, the time and place was then to hash it out, privately with Jack. . . Not on a forum, and not just for the sake of badmouthing someone -- will badmouthing get you a refund?

Now. . . As far as those of you that are concerned about Jack's "profit margin". . . Let me fill you in (not that it's anyones business in the first place).

I sent Jack a message, that some were bellyaching about him taking money from the auction, and that it was "too much" in some peoples minds. Here is a snippet of what he sent me:

Nate, thanks again for your compassion and wanting to bless others.
Tell the old ladies to find something else to snivel about already... Better yet, tell them to give away something to someone they have never actually met instead of whin' about me.

Additionally, I will give 1/2 of the total of the last bar (lasted about 6 hrs. on eBay) to Gospel for Asia (try to buy a cow, pig ,or something they can turn around to try and support themselves with) as soon as I figure out how to do it. The bar in ? now, I bought it at a retail shop, and as with all shops they like to stay in business, so not all things are free...

Incidentally, I will probably give more than 1/2, I just need to make sure the costs and fees are covered........ All this is after we (my boys and I) sent 9 shoe boxes (paid for shipping also) full of toys, dental hygene things, pencils, note books, color crayons, etc. etc. Mutliple shopping bags full of food all fall for Thanksgiving boxes (we are slated for a couple more at Christmas time), pjs, coats etc. etc. again, tonite actually, bought 2 sets of clothes (shirt sweater pant), a pair of those ugg things (boots), 5 pairs of socks, several candy bags (the youngest came up with that all by his self!) for a little girl (never will met her either) as the secret Santa through my church, and we are not done yet.

And finally, I give all year long whatever I can whenever I can, not just this time of year....
So,,,,, I am not to worried about what a few naysayers are babbling about. God knows where my heart is!

Thanks again Nate and blessings from the coast!

BTW, this isn't Jack bragging about what he does. . . This is him defending himself against left handed gossip. If you would like to bid to help this family please do!! If you don't want to -- please don't.

Now maybe we can focus on what should have been the focus in the first place anyway! . . And that's getting some money to a family with a disabled daughter, and a grandpa with cancer.

I'm sending pictures to Jack today of a box of saw stuff, that I'm sending him, that he's going to add to the auction as a "bonus". . . That stuff may be junk to some, but it's resalable 'junk'. Perhaps it will offset the cost of giving to this family for whoever wants to make a bid on this bar.

~Nate

Good on Jack for doing that. I can't believe someone would bad mouth the guy?? What's the world coming to??

Does anybody know if Jack is on this forum?

Guess I missed all the hub bub...

There wasn't really "hub bub"...

Nate- I'm glad Jack's heart is in the right place on this. However, he might be better off doing a raffle style benefit for charity like others here have done. That tends to raise a lot more money because a lot of people can "pitch in", as opposed to relying on one person who makes the entire contribution. Maybe you could host a raffle for Jack?

Good idea JJ.

Not "gossip", "left handed" or otherwise (and I am left handed). What's wrong with discussing an ebay seller and his practices in an open forum about ebay auctions (meaning the "I saw it.." thread)? As for his giving, well that's laudible, but not unique to him. Many of us give our time and money to folks in need.

Nobody ever said his auction should be removed, stopped, or whatever. He's free to charge what he wants and give what he wants. We're also free (as you stated) to bid or not bid as we see fit........................and we're also free to discuss his public auctions in a public forum pertaining to ebay saw auctions. We weren't 'gossiping' there. Simply stating factual observations regarding some of his past and present auctions. Remember that the discussion wasn't here in your "Hey Mac Heads..." thread either, it was in the ebay thread. You addressed it here, instead of where the discussion was taking place (with a "Y'all need to read this") tag and link to this thread...

That is a good idea JJ. . . And I agree, it would lessen the cost for one person to bid the whole ball of wax.

I'll get a hold of him and see if he's willing to take the auction down and throw his bar in on a 'raffle' instead.

Good on'ya for your idea. :)

Listen, I didn't want to muddy up the "I saw it thread", so what better way then to send it here.

And I'm sorry you're left handed. :p

Seriously. . . The comments being made were far from constructive. And you can't honestly say they would make someone reading them want to run out and bid on that bar to help that family. Instead, they would make someone think twice, maybe making them think they would be taken by someone out to make a buck on their goodwill.

No matter. . . I said my piece, you said yours -- I harbor no I'll will toward anyone.

Lets help this family eh!?

I agree................except for the LH part. We're the only ones in our Right Minds BTW, and there's quite a few of us on AS!

I would like to help the family, but can't afford to throw $300-$500 (or more) to do it. Maybe you (or Jack) should list a PP address or some other place where we can make more affordable donations. Many of us Mac Heads are opperating on a shoestring. We're running neat old saws because we like them, and because we can have a good running 100cc saw for one quarter of the cost of a new MS660...:D

I agree. . . I asked Jack if he'd be into a benefit here. I'm waiting for him to get back to me.

You rich son of a gun!! You operate on a shoestring? I operate on a sewing thread.

I see bidding has ended. Did he cancel it just to relist it slightly lower cause no idiot took the bait or did someone actually fall for the sob story and pay $500 for a $75 bar.

Nuttin like being a tree/chainsaw guy and gouging the rest of the tree/chainsaw guys :bang::angry:

Nate, I think where the problem came from is that he had a BIN of $500, and stated he was giving 1/2 to charity. While that's a generous donation, that still left him profiting $250 off a chainsaw bar, making it appear that he was using the guise of a donation to increase his personal profits.. If it was his intentions to give more, he should have said so, and I don't think he would have caught the flack he did. For what it's worth, I've never dealt with the gentleman, so I have nothing personal in this. This is just how it appears to the outsider looking in.
