Austrian Pine

I have just been given two Austian Pines that are about 14 inches tall. I live in Albuquerque New Mexico. It has been cold at night 17-25 degrees. days are between 40 and 50 degrees. I would like to plant them but would like to know if I should cover them at night or if there are any other cosiderations that will help these trees live and prosper?

It will certainly help to cover the root ball with mulch. 6" for the winter would be good.
