I have looked at them and I wouldn't mind having one. They are not built as tough as a Gehl (more plastic on Avante). For the money Gehl probably lifts better too. But Avante has some smaller machines that would be nice to have. I have not used one.

Avant produced the loader for Gehl. I have a Gehl AL20 and the plate on the side says made in Finland by Avant. Awesome machine. Sure the new ones have plastic where the old ones had metal but I don't think its a big deal. No turf damge is what sets these machines apart from any of the mini skids. You won't be dissappointed.

So have you made the leap. When I catch up on trees I might take a 5 hour (1 way) road trip to Minn. to check them out.

Jakapoly,

You got me a little curious... you mentioned about a week ago that the boxer was the best mini yet you went with a DW. I have an older boxer and I can deal with the controls that a few folks have complained about and am overall pleased with the machine but mine just seems slow as he**. I've been interested in the Avant 420 and the sk755 also has my interest so would love to hear about your demo experience and why you chose the DW? thanks

For what it is worth: I sent a message to Avant to ask if there are any dealers in Ohio. I received a call the next morning to let me know there are not, but they are working with folks to finalize plans to an existing equipment dealer to pick up the Avant line. The guy I spoke with was very helpful, offering to get me a machine now if I wanted one and promising to figure out maintenance if any is needed before there is a dealer in the area. He asked what I would use it for, suggested which attachments would work best, which models would fit the bill, etc..., etc... While he is a company rep, not an official salesman, I do recognize he was trying to sell a piece of equipment. Having said that, in my one little initial encounter with the company I am impressed with their customer service. The real test of customer service is when something goes wrong after the sale...but seeing that it is harder and harder to find decent customer service at any level, that conversation was a good start. I am probably a year+ off of buying, but I am always looking ahead to see what is next. Maybe if things go really really well and a dealer opens in the area and offers introductory pricing I'll buy one this fall (maybe). I think I want a 528 as the 400 series doesn't have the power to move decent sized B&B trees. Otherwise, I'd rather something smaller from the 400 series.

I also run boxer 320 and 427 I was looking for a new machine because Boxer quit making the 427 for now. I liked the avant (528) but did not get the machine because I was worried how it would handle in the winter snow seem to start spinning when the yard was wet going up a very steep hill.. So i demoed the dw 750 on A very steep hill with wet conditions I liked the speed of the machine.. I have only used it for a week so time will tell.
