Just ordered Bailey's slick (on sale now) and TF corner chisel anyone used them before ? I think I remember mntgun mentioned using it on his barn project any reviews ? It mentioned handle assembly i'm assuming it will have instructions but anyone have and tips to make sure it goes smootlhy??

I bought both of them and they are basically junk. The wood is some sort of white wood that will break on you and the metal on the 90 degree tool is really junk and hard to sharpen.

If you live close to Houston I will give you mine.

I would really go with a better quality tool.

I went with Barr chisels and I thank myself every time I use them - no comparison! They are over $120 but worth it if you are going to use it often as I do.

Ut oh was hoping for better but thanks for the honesty !! Won't use them a ton but maybe remake the handle right off the bat. I made a slick out of a curve snowmobile spring plus a baseball bat sawn off for a handle it works tempered the first 1" or so seems to take a decent sharpening but never used a "real" slick not sure what to compare it too the cariboo look really nice seen those before like tools used to be made !! Thanks for the input appreciate it.

The metal portion of the Bailey's slick works fine. The wooden handle seems to be balsa wood or some such thing and will probably need to be replaced with hardwood down the road -- not a big deal.

I just recently received the corner chisel and haven't sharpened or used it yet. The metal portion is certainly beefy enough. The wood handle appears to be the balsa wood stuff.

No doubt a pro would rather buy pro tools, but for the DIY'er I think the Bailey's tools are a good value.

Looking on the Bailey's site, they mention that the handles are hardwood, but that's all they mention about the handles. Check ebay, I have gotten a few slicks from there for a decent price.

I picked up an antique corner chisel from the 'bay while I was waiting for the Bailey's chisel. It cost more than the Bailey's. They look just the same, except one is old and rusty. It remains to be seen if there will be a noticeable difference in the steel.

The balsa handles are annoying, but a new handle can be whittled from any piece of hardwood. I'll probably gather some dead branches from an apple tree in an old homestead, and fashion handles out of apple.

Thanks everyone for the input. I realize they would not be heirloom quality tools just hoping they'd take a edge and hold it a little to be useable may just make new handles right off the bat and hold onto the ones it comes with for a pattern. we'll see soon enough I suppose. Thank you

Got them both the other day , pretty much as described the handles are cheap but I can replace them if they break. The slick was roughly shaped and still working on the edges with wetstones going to take some more work but its fairly sharp if I can't get it as sharp as I want I may just retemper it and try again for 25.00 can't complain too much. The corner chisel was also rough but expected that it actually came to a edge quicker that I expected. All in all for what it is I am pleased so far. Just a update.
