I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Baker, although I don't see many of them out west (they are an Eastern company). I doubt you would be unhappy, but if it's something that concerns you, either find one down under to check out first, or fly to the Baker plant and see it in person.

I have not used any Bakers, although I have watched someone else use an 18D in the past, it seemed like a good solid machine to me, and the 3638 is a better sawmill, and their premier offering, AFAIK.

I've had experience with one of their resaws and it was a good well built piece of equipment. It was run 20 hrs a day 6 days a week and held up just fine for the two years I took care of it. Can't say anything specific about the mills though but if the quality is the same across the board for baker products, you should be happy. As stated already though, I think I would want to put my hands on one to see for myself before I dropped that kind of coin. Shipping has gotta be through the roof to get it down under.
