I am trying to find a ball hone with aluminum oxide and all I come up with is silicon carbide. I read that the local auto parts store has them, but mine doesn't and doesn't even have a catalog to look at(I live in a really small town). Where do I look? I am going to a larger city today(60,000), so will auto parts places there have them?

I spent way too much time looking this morning on the internet. I am sure they are out there, but I can't seem to find the right search words to get results.

Ball Hones

My question is how far does the hones flex. Would you have to buy one for each bore dia. Thanks Tom

They are supposed to be ~ 10% larger than the bore diameter. If its a bit less than bore diameter, you can still use it, it just takes a little more work to hone it well. If it is too much larger though, the pressure will be too great and it will bind up and not want to move. If you are talking a 50 cc saw and a 60 cc saw, then one that works for both would be fine, but if you're talking a 40 cc saw, and a 120 cc saw, then they're going to prefer a different size hone.
