:censored: I got a call from one of my good customers that have been with me for about 8 years and they needed me to remove bamboo from back of there parents home and its not small stuff I could bushhog its like saplings with a 3" - 5" base. Has anyone ever removed this stuff before ? I guess the best way is to use my bobcat with tracks and the bucket with teeth and push it out of the ground im guessing.I don't even know what price to give him.If I have offended anyone from putting this post up in here im sorry I am not a beginner in the business just wanted to ask. So please be gentle..lol

Your bobcat is your best bet. If you dont get all the roots out it will be back in a couple of months. Cut chip then doze. Chemicals are hard to use on the stuff. I have used Rodeo and Arsenal directly on the cuts. That works OK but cheap stuff like round up are only a temporary solution. Unless you get it all and every bit of root It will be back before you know it.
Good Luck!

Gotcha.. THANKS FOR THE IMPUT...now I am trying to figure out a price for him since I don't want to screw myself and hes a good customer. area is about 120feet long 60feet wide any suggestions?

Some of the bamboo I measured us 7" at base and around 25feet tall I will post some pics soon this is crazy never seen bamboo that tall before.

I am trying to talk a guy that has one of those foresting machines that looks like a bobcat to come grind it up.. and mulch it.id like to sub the work out to him I will probably go behind and put the teeth in my box blade and tear up the root balls...

Hey man; on the more serious side that Bamboo looks as though someone could use it to build furniture ( chairs, tables , bed frames , utility sheds, etc. ) Also you might check Bamboo Flooring Manufacturers ( on line ). You might have a bonanza & not realize it's full potential !!!!

Good Point... I will check into that and see what I can find on it but so much of that :censored: grows all over im sure they have a good supply but thanks for the input on that though. Have you ever had any dealings with bamboo ?

That is a lot of bamboo. Good luck on the project and let us know how it turns out. How's biz down in Richmond, it's been real busy here in NOVA...

Easiest option would be to bring in an excavator with a wide bucket and scrape it. Load the material into a demo bin and haul it away. Bamboo root s are pretty shallow, so you are only going to go down about 6".

Next would be to cut it and chip it, then use your bobcat to scape the roots out.

AFter you have done that, wait a couple of weeks and spray any new shoots.

I've removed lots of bamboo, although never as large a patch as that. I've had to do it both with a stumper and by hand (using a mattock and shovel). Pretty easy with the stumper, sucks by hand.

Honestly ;no former dealings with that size Bamboo ! Take Lemons & turn them into Lemonade. Take Big Bamboo & turn it into ?????????? . Someone has an answer. Maybe " Windchimes " or " Homes for Homeless Hampsters ". Kitchen utensils. Bowls & cups . Table Lamps, Floor Lamps , Picture Frames. Railings for staircases or outdoor areas. Fences ( unique & unusual ). I'm running low on ideas; HELP !!!!!!!:buttkick:

Great ideas guys.. the excavator I can say thats a good idea I just wonder how much I should charge does anyone think 6grand is too much or too lil i dont want to screw myself... Business is so so here in richmond I honestly havent touched a tree in a month or so I do excavation work and thats whats keeping me afloat but with the way prices are down here in richmond and all the tree companies and how low you have to bid jobs I am not so sure I want to deal with trees right now. I will definately deal with them more if we have a hurricane in nc or va but as for trees I love tree work but right now its just not the booming business here. What about in NOVA hows things there did you bid on your Vdot district tree services ?

Go for $6000. We quote good, fair prices and lately if the client doesn't bite within a week or two and we need the work I offer 33% off if they pay cash. It has worked pretty well so far.

What a mess, I would bill enough to make it worth doing but not lose the job, there are plenty of excavator around richmond that will come in and doze the area, especially since all work has slowed down with gas prices where they are at. Definitly need to scrap down 6-8 inches to get the roots out, that stuff is hard to get rid of.

Yea,
I think I am gonna bid 6,000 on that job and see what happens but lowest I could go would be $5,500 thats alot of work and alot of cans i will have to get to put the crap in cause im not hauling it or chipping it. I am in process of seeing if the guy can come in with the forestry chipper and cut that crap down.

Bamboo is always tougher than you think it's going to be. It's NASTY stuff.

Be careful you don't lowball yourself. Since you haven't worked with it before, you might want to play it safe and just bill by the hour, if you can get your customer to agree to that. Be honest with him - tell him you haven't done any bamboo work, and really don't know how long it will take.

What are you going to do about disposing of it? I'm not a tree guy, but I'd bet that stuff will make your chipper cry for mercy. Might take a lot longer to dispose of than you think.

Dadawins is right - you'll have to take out at least 6-8 inches to get the roots. Maybe more. Will he want new topsoil brought in? There's a nice add-on billable job for you.

Don't guarantee the bamboo will not return.

Just for information , my wife told me that manufactuers are using Bamboo fiber to make clothing & she also mentioned really good, expensive bed-sheets. She mentioned the processed fibers are very strong , but very soft. That's all I know for right now !:givebeer:
