Bamboo is helll on a chipper. It only chips when the knifes are very sharp and the anvil is square and set very close to perfect. Then once you get it chipping, it dulls the knifes in very short order.
I would imagine that masticating it would be a tedious chore as well.
I think you are on the right track useing an excavator and hauling it away.

What about in NOVA hows things there did you bid on your Vdot district tree services ?

Business was very good this spring & it's still steady to say the least so far this summer. What VDOT district tree services are you talking about? My company is small and a contract like that is probably too big (for now), but I'm always willing to check it out.

Gotcha.. THANKS FOR THE IMPUT...now I am trying to figure out a price for him since I don't want to screw myself and hes a good customer. area is about 120feet long 60feet wide any suggestions?

i got two words for this job "TIME + MATERIAL" bid an hourly rate...

BAMBOO SUCKS !!!!!

it doesn;t cut well ,splinters !!,, it chips into strings,, just a mess...

what i would do, is get a bull dozer ,, push it over,, and a bunch of dumpsters,,, or a demo trailer or 2..JMHO

two words........ controlled burn.............lol

If this is a good client that you have had for awhile then I would do as the others have stated and charge an hourly rate and give them a ballpark figure to chew on and as stated before, make no promises that it won't come back.

Yes, all of you have gave great suggestions and I DEFINATELY told them I cant guarantee the bamboo wont return. I am gonna use a 6 way blade dozer to push it over and load it into dumpsters I found that the best way then coming back with my tractor and box blade with the teeth in it and trying to pull them out of the ground of either disc the :censored: out of it do yall think that will be ok ? I also am bringing in 5 quint loads of topsoil for them as well thats part of the bid. I wish yall were in richmond to help. Me and my 3 guy crew will be worn out...I hate that crap already.....

I would add a couple of herbicide treatments (inspect and treat) at 2 and 4 weeks to pick up anything that is deciding to sprout again.

Very good point this job would be either a man that was some ruff jew jew or either it was no where near as hard as I thought it would be... the spraying is excellent idea...

If your gonna use a dozer.... why not use the dozer to cut out most of the root layer? regrade with fill and topsoil...3 man crew... 1 guy in the dozer cuttin' the root layer, 1 guy in the skid loading the container with the rooty material, the low man on the pole doing the handwork...lol

call 811 and get miss utility on site 48 hours before you start they will mark anything on the site. Also be careful about any old septic tanks that may be on the property, last thing you want is pull heavy equipment out of a sludge filled hole.

What's your time worth to you, is the most important thing?Suggest a trial run on it? I removed a section in knoxville one time, was like 30 by 75 and we cut and chipped for 4 days and ended up with 19,850 lbs when it was all tallied on the scales at Natural Resources Recovery on oak ridge highway! So price and measure carefully! If ya can find a wicker furniture mfr, they may buy the bamboo from ya!

I tried to find someone that would want to use it for furniture but no bites so I guess only way is to doze it and use containers... I know im not gonna chip that crap..lol

Your good deed?

Also, if ya know any Native Americans close to ya they'd be tickled to get some of the bamboo for basket and blow gun making! They may pay you, but that's not too important. If you know some less fortunate kids make em a fishin pole. It will make you feel good to do somethin like that for someone. It's the little things that people remember and the thought that counts.

That's funny. I have a hungarian buddy that helps us on the trees occasionally. He always says," Darn where are those beavers when we need em?" "We gotta just chain 'em to the tree and let em:cheers: work for us!" LOl
