Has anyone had any experiences advertising with the 24" by 18" coroplast signs you see nailed to telephone poles? I did the "we buy houses" thing for a while and received calls daily.

It is for bottom feeders and hacks. If you think you fit in that category, go for it.

I have tried that in the past and got in trouble with the county. They remove them and call me and say if I put them up again, I will get a fine..soooo I do not do it anymore

Stick to lawnsigns in front of your work, and signs onyour truck.

IMO signs on util. poles says "I'm desperate"

the ones I mention say "I'm proud of my work!"

I gotta say, it all depends on the neighborhood/community. It's not the most professional way to go about doing it, but by the same means it ain't the worst way to get yur name out there.

I wouldn't say it necessarily brands you as a 'hack.'

But, that is an entry level way of going aboot it. ;)

hmmmm.

Well i did it myself this year. So i guess i'm either a bottom feeder or a hack.

I guess i'll just have to accept one or the other.

Funny though I did get quite a bit of work from them though. When you are just starting out and the 3k yellow page add doesn't seem quite affordable; you do what you have to do.
Not proud of it b/c i know what some others think of the technique. Hopefully I won't have to do it next year. But if that's what it takes then suck up your pride and getr' done!

So which is worse knocking doors or posting signs on poles????

I don't see anything wrong with it per se. I guess all it really boils down to is what the people who call think.

As for which is worse, I'd say going door to door. I've dropped off door hangers in neigborhoods I've worked, and flyers for my clients too. I'll allso approach people if they are out of doors near a job we are working on or leaving.

I have a buddy in the lawn/landscape business here in town. He tells me that he makes agreement w/ most clients to allow him to post signage in there yard for a certain period of time. He never has to pay, i guess it's been working well for him.

In regard to the signage on poles. I agree i wouldn't post my company name. Only things i've ever done were adverterising firewood, storm damage, and fall cleanup. It's cheap advertising.

I've yet to find a caller who thought they were calling some hack/low life. I picked up several excellent clientle from the signs actually.

I dont know, as long as you get jobs and you do good work it dont really matter. if Im in a neighborhood and I see dead trees I will knock and tell them I can do it a little cheaper since im in the area.
