I have a homelite super xl with what i thought was a 16" bar. I went to the local tractor supply to buy a new chain. I found an Oregon replacement sor the saw. 60 drive links, 3/8 pitch,.050" gauge. brought it home and tried to put it on. Too long!! I counted the drive links on the original chain and there were 59. I thought the bar was 16". I believe it is the original. Now I can't find any bars. It needs a new bar. anyone have any ideas?

depending on the bar manufacture both 59 driver and 60 driver were used. a oregon 160GNDD196 would be 60 driver

that is common on the super Xl

The super xl is normally a few links shorter than other saws. Return the chain and call Baileys, they are familiar with what your super XL will need. My dad has a super XL with a 20 inch bar and His chains are several links less than what I run on my stihls. Dang shame to cause he has about 20 old chains laying around in almost new shape.

I was looking on Bailey's website. The have aCarlton bar that would work this my saw and the new chain. Are those bars any good? It was like $20. Kinda seems cheap to me..Regardless though, the bar that is on it now is about 40 years old and its time for a new one.

It depends how much you cut per year. Less than 10 cords a year it will last you longer than you want to use that saw. Talk to someone there before you buy, Im not sure if it is the bar or the sprocket that causes the different chain size with that saw.

aren't the 20" super xl's a 70 drive link, whereas stihl and husky are 72?

With the standard Oregon bar, a 16" on a Super XL is 60 links, while the 150 is 59. The bar will make the difference in your situation.

Sometimes the manufacturer is wrong. My 42" Oregon has 135 stamped on it, but took 136 on my 066 and 3120.

But the 150 and the SXL are 2 completely different bars YES one was 59 dr and one was 60 driver...
In Oregon terms SXL= D196 bar, 150= K095 bar
