Thinning out bar oil

I buy by the gal cheapest I have found. does anyone know how to thin the oil for winter I do not want to buy the more expensive thinner oil. can I add gas or diesel or something else?

Please dont add gas. We will be reading about you in the paper. Diesel maybe. :blob2:

I work in all kinds of weather, just throw the oil jug in the cab of the truck on the way to the job, its fine. Pours easy. after the saw runs for 5 minutes it circulates real well, so it doesn't need to be thinned after adding to the saw. The only reason to thin oil is the convenience of filling the saw. If you are working in any type of cold weather, a gallon jug can be warmed easily in the cab, or a couple of minutes by the muffler of the chipper.

In real cold weather I like to throw the saw in the cab for a few minutes also, not for the sake of the saw, just more comfortable than handling an ice cube.

I have always ran cheap bar oil with my oiler turned up. I do find that when it gets cold "summer" bar oil gets too thick and doesn't pump well. Kersosene is what I have been recomended to use to thin with. I usually thin my bar oil with some cheap 0-30w engine oil if i can't get "winter" bar oil. I find thinner oil, with the oiler turned up keeps my saw cleaner and it cuts better. Just my opinion.
