If you are getting a new bar from new stock it is hard to tell what you are actually getting if it is labeled Carlton, GB, or Forester.

If you can find old stock than Windsor and GB is right there with Oregon.

Stihl bars are good bars but for the $ spent I would get a Tsumura/Tiltons SB.
Cannon bars are good bars but expensive.

I like Stihl ES bars. I believe they are much better than GB Ti bars.

What makes you say that ?.Have you had a bad one or what ?.
All my bars are GB Ti bars every single one so what does that tell ya,i have 11 of them,from 18'' to 50''and between them they have hads over a hundred hrs use.

Mostly it says that you have 11 bars of the same brand that even if I wanted to buy I cannot find a vendor for any longer. It would be nice to have some quality GB products back in the area but the last ones were crap, mostly rail splay and tips.

How do you keep the paint so nice on those bars with 100s of hours on them? Usually the orange paint falls off when you mount them to the saw.:biggrin:

If I were you and were to venture out I would try a Tsumura first....

i've only used Stihl bars so far so i really can't say except they haven't given me a reason to look for another brand. i would like to try one of them Frost Bite bars some day, not their chain though, i hear it's too hard to sharpen easily.

Stihl is the only saw manufacture company that makes their own bars and chains. ..... J2F

Well i will have to say NO the Ti bars are made in Melbourne Australia going by the last ones i got a couple of months ago,that said made in Australia on the packaging.

The fact is that they are all pretty good bars. High wear rates if you get a bad one generally become apparent in the first few hours. After that they tend to "harden" up and settle down. The only problem I've ever had with bar quality on a known brand was an Aussie made 24" GB Pro Top where the rails started chipping. I run a pair of these and the other was fine but the chipping stopped pretty quickly and both bars are still in use. Try some of the Chinese made solid sprocket nosed Power Match copy bars, they'll show you what wear is like
I know certain guys have their favourites but many people who praise a certain bar have rarely used a wide variety to compare them with.
I'll go out on a limb here and estimate that 99% of people who say Stihl make the best bars have never used another brand of bar By the way the Stihl ES bars are indeed top notch but very spendy in Australia.

Here's a 32 incher that's doing okay, but it has less than 100 cuts on it. Only use it for the big stuff. Brand new in this pic.

This 24" bar has about a 1/4 of what my old Stihl ES had on it and the rail was starting to chip.

Thats one of the older ones the design and grahics has changed and allso the oil hole went from oval to round.

I guess I fit into that 1% then that run many brands of bars and see most all of the rest come through here. For my money I will stay with the Stihl bars, preferably the ES for high production saws. There is not much difference in cost here between the Oregon PRO bars and the Stihl bars. The worst bars we have ever encountered were sold by Husqvarna with their logo on them. They were very soft and could be worn out within one week of running and it certainly was not due to improper use or oiling. There were 7 saws in use on that project that were rotated around between the sawyers, the bars were even rotated between saws and the result was the same. It was just a one time thing as the next lot that came in were much better but the Stihl ES bars used on the same project showed no more wear than normal. All the top of the line bars are well made in general with Total, GB, Cannon and Stihl getting top marks.

the 32 is only 6oz more then my es light. man this bar is top notch.

IMO the plain old Stihl ES bar is hard to beat for price, durability, and the fact that you can go down to your local dealer and walk out with one.

Nobody's mentioned the Sugi Haras yet. I have yet to find a better bar for the money. Dealer support? None. Only one vendor in the US, but for the price, they can't be beat. I haven't had a nose blow up on me yet, but when I do, no biggie -- they come with an extra nose from the dealer! I think they're probably about 95% as good as the Tsumuras and way cheaper. Think I paid US$70 for a 28", if I remember right. I've run the snot out of it and all It has to show for wear is some smudged paint on the inserts.
