Ok, I'll check it out - assuming I ever get that far...This project is growing-now I'm on the lookout for a used arbor press. That #@*#ing bearing is STUCK!

clutch side i'm guessing? ive pressed them out with a vice and a socket before

The 1mm gasket is supposedly only for parts of Africa, parts of Eastern Europe or areas with poor quality and low octane gasoline... (Illinois ;)). The std paper gasket was 0.5mm, but was superceeded in the early 90's by rubber coated metal. Many aftermarket kits still supply the 0.5mm paper gasket.

Yup. tried that too. Didn't work. I was able to get it rigged up in there and could bear down on it pretty good but the vice was opened up almost all the way and I'm afraid of killing my threads. So that's why I'm looking for a press.

I've never minded buying tools... That flywheel puller I picked up on ebay made it sooo easy. Nothing like the having the right tool for the job.

Sorry to get your thread off topic...

I can't get either one to move. I don't have a replacement case yet-maybe it'll come with a good crank and bearings...

H*ll..its part of a stihl disassembly..thats not off topic!! i typicall split the case by pushing the crank out of the cluth side...so then all i have to do is press out the bearing

Hmm...when I used the bar bolted onto the bar mount studs and a two jaw puller, the flywheel side loosend and the case split. I put it back together for the support and set the bar and puller up again (after straightening out the bar) I clamped the free end of the bar to the bench with a bar clamp so it wouldn't lift up (bend) so much. Still wouldn't push the crank out. Just bent the bar into a U shape.

ok...so do u have the case split or not? there are 6 bolts and 2 dowel alignment pins in the case...remove the bolts and tap in the pins..and then try splitting it

Yeah. It's split no bolts, pins out and the halves are apart. Just can't get the crank or bearing out of the clutch side. Since I'm likely to trash this case anyway I considered taking a hacksaw and cutting down almost to the bearing to relieve the tension—but I really shouldn't need to do that.

I'm sure a press would probably take care of it.

y are u gonna trash the case? a press should get it out. the case splitter that i made would prolly do it to. i need to get some pics of that thing for you guys

System Overload

Too much visual stimulation and technical information ..... cannot compute ...systems overload ..... crashing ...crashing .

Excellent reading , I will hope for ten inches of rain here so I can take it all in . Thanks for your thread !:greenchainsaw:

It's cracked in several places on the clutch side. There are cracks coming from both bar mount studs. Either it was dropped hard or someone was using it as a hammer.

ic ic...the proper way to do it is the change the crankcase as a whole..because the case halves are machined as a unit...therefore they are a matching set..mismatched case halves could be off my a bit..prolly not much...but it wouldn't take much to put a load on the bearings
