If you really want to have fun with burning bees, try this:

1. find general area of a new hive. Too bad you killed the last one.
2. String trim all weeds away from the area at night, while it is safe. Wait for High Noon, when bees will be most active.
3. Splash a pint of gasoline in the area, but don't pour it down the hole.
4. Ignite, presumably from a safe distance.
5. Watch with delight as bees try to escape the flame zone when they depart the safety of the hive. Returning workers will be held away, but some will zoom into the fire like a Moslem fanatic with a suicide bomb.
6. Add small splashes of gas to the fire as needed, so that the fire outlasts the bee supply.

That sounds like fun, even better than stirring them up and standing back w/ a ping pong paddle swatting angry incoming bees. Hornets make a big pleasing "splat" sound when hit solidly. More fun than a rat killing.

Wait till nighttime and lay a lit propane weed torch to them, problem solved.

I suspect that they did not get stung by "wood bees", also known as carpenter bees. These are very docile bees, the males do not even have stingers, and they are usually considered a solitary insect.

So what did you guys really get stung by?

I hope it was bees, maybe not wood bees, but some kind of bees tho. The guy who got put in the hospital had a lot of stings on his face and neck.

You got more guts than I. Bees come at you too quickly.

I did take out a whole bumble bee nest once with just a board. I just kept popping them out of the air when they returned to the nest. It was like batting practice, they came in nice & slow, hovered a bit looking for the nest, and POW! Got another one!
