I have removed alot of trees on my property using a Come-Along with a rope secured high to pull the tree in the right direction while cutting. I have tried alot of Come-alongs. Some of the Imported ones are really cheap. In my opinion the one that is miles above the rest in Quality and Ease of Use is the LUG-ALL alluminum Frame. It is really worth the premium price you pay for it.

Nothing beats a real Tirfor, the best. Basically a hand over hand type pulling machine with no drum. Pulls or lowers the load on both pulls of the handle, 70' long wire rope. Different sizes, mine has a 7/16 cable, pulled over big trees and yarded out my stuck pickup with it. I have a decent come along, but it has limitations, like the drum that can only hold about 12'.

I did a search on the Tirfor. Never heard of it before. What a neat machine. Expensive $600 for the smallest one. How does it store the cable?

cables

there is one that is about $150 that is real quality made i think baileys sells it.
It beats the cheap ones all day. Personally i would like to have a chainsaw powered winch (not the rope capstan one) And yes the 3rd world is also making some real winners of portable electric winch's.:sucks: :chainsaw:
