I dont know if this works on ropes or not yet but i bet it does.. mayonase . i dont know if i spelled that right or not but its the white stuff you put on a sandwich .. not mirical whip.. but mayo . Real helmans.. I was covered with pitch last week when i did a white pine removal and i remembered someone saying once to put mayo on it for a while.. and it got every spot of pitch off me when i tryed it.. you just put it on rub it in let it sit for a few min , rub it around so it breaks up the pitch and then take a shower and it will all be off. . its amazing how well it works. Try it and post back and let me know what you guys think

I tried mayo once on some lanyards that had gotten really pitched out...guess I didn't rinse them off well enough because they got stinky. Had to really give them a thorough hot, soapy washing to rid the rancid smell...eeeeuuuhhh!! It did work pretty well on the pitch. I've heard that peanut butter works, too, but that might draw squirrels...right, Rocky?

I spray with PAM or whatever is in thee cuboard, then scrub. i use it on blades too.

Then wash in cool water. If the snaps are spliced in then tie a sock on, I girth hitch mine.

then line dry in the shade or hang in the basement by the furnace, usualy dryer there.

Since Mayonaze is nothin but vegitable oil, egg yolks and lemon juice, you can get the same cleaning action without the egg yolks, and eliminate the stink and mold factor by using veggie oil with a quarter cup of lemon juice to the pint of veggie oil.
It's not a good thing to let the wife catch ya makin up cleaner from her grocerys, or usin her blender to make them though.
After workin the oil in, a trip to the local laundromat will definitely keep ya out of marriage counseling.

The veggie oil sounds decent and mellow.

I use margarine first, butter if out of margarine.

Then soap to clean up.

This is easy on the skin.

I use a lye-bath solution for my saw blades and chain - a technique I learned from DCP Sharpening in Beaverton, Oregon.

i think the bigger question is......how does one discover mayo works?

were you eating your lunch and a big glob of mayo oozed out on your hands to help you make this discovery?

or was it a kinky thing that involved mayo?

helmans.....not just for sandwich's any more. maybe you could write a book......101 use's for mayo.

Brake cleaner works very well for getting pine sap (and just about everything else) off of your equipment. it's pretty cheap too. Be careful, because it is a very high powered solvent. I try to use it on bars, my log dolly, trailer, and stuff like that that I know it wont hurt.

brake cleaner is nasty stuff.....i didn't even like useing it when i worked as a mechanic. did you ever read the label? it doesn't say can cause cancer, it says WILL cause cancer.
