Hmm... the plate with the adjuster stud is the same as on the 440. The studs on a 441 are not different enough to blame this as an issue entirely unique to the 441. The only time I've had a tensioner stud break on an 044 from throwing a chain was when I didn't have the bar nuts tight.

Yea, he might be to stubborn to say any differently.
I wonder what the dealer is going to do.

Now keep in mind This is what he is telling me. Also he has never read the prince thread.
He has been using both saws this week. Also I might add the 440 is atleast a year old. Ended up using his Huskys today and is now ready to buy a new 372.

Dayumm that little mishap seems to really have ticked him off. He's gonna go buy a new saw over that, man. I've replaced many chain adjusters that got snapped off from the bar not being tightened down enough and got pushed back. If you really think about it how else did it snap off while the saw was cutting. It kicked back, snapped the adjuster, chain went loose and came off, simple as that, loose bar. Operator error but oh well.............

would you cover it.

I would repair it under warranty, no questions asked. I would also tell him tighten your bar down alittle bit more. I can understand him not tightening the bar too much on a new saw, alot of folks don't for fear of stipping the studs on a brand new saw. Causes many adjusters to get snapped off. He'll be ok at the dealer if he's got a good dealer treating him right. A 6.00 part and 10 minutes is hardly worth arguing over..

Also how far of are these saws off with carb adjustments after break in ?
would you loose alot of power ?

If he has a good dealer Manual all he has to do is take it back and say its broke in now, how about checking my carb adjustments. I do it all the time, in fact I tell them to bring it back just for that. Most times the saws have picked up some rpms and need a slight richening but not very much, just a tad to get it within specs and she's good to go. Power loss after break in , no, its the other way around, you gain power after break in. However like I said sometime the saws gain too many Rpms and have to be set back down some, or richened up just a tad..

yea thought so.
I tried to talk him out of the 372 . yep I did.
I told him that the hensels are using 575's and like them alot. and to buy one of them.
Like I said lets see whats happens.

My Dealer says and does the same thing..even for the homeowners.

Manual...I was just jabbing at you with my comment.;)

I prolly wouldn't have bought one if it weren't for the prince thread!!!
It certainly was a part of my decision. I usually buy Stihl anyways, but if they didn't have this saw with the improved antivibe, I may have gone elsewhere or got the 361. And if they had a new model 50cc with heated handles, I may have bought it instead of the 346.

I notised that the bar nuts of the 372xpg needed to be tightened harder than on my my smaller saws.......

...but it is the smoothest and easiest started saw I have.....:biggrinbounce2: :biggrinbounce2:

Well I tell ya Manual if he's the type that goes ape over a little mishap like snapping a adjuster plug off due to a loose bar he's a dealers nitemare. Sometimes you have to fess up to your own mistakes and your friend sounds as though he's awful stubborn to do that. If power is his main gripe he's still going to be griping with a 575. There isn't a whole lot differance, some but not that much, power wise between all four saws were talking about here.

I did get a bad tensioner once before....

Im not sure how it happened but I replaced the tensioner on my 460 because it was worn out and the second day later was cutting some seasoned red oak about 24" and the first time I adjusted the chain the pin just fell out?? took it back to the shop and the first thing he asked was if my barcover was tight?????? and it was they looked at it and gave me another one, the tech said it looked like a faulty spot weld or something??? My eyes are shot anyway so I couldn't see what he was talking about it,,,,

Good comment!!!

The 575 is not any better than the 441.

Like Thall has stated these saws are all pretty close. The thing that separates them are things like serviceablity (on the saw and the dealer)

AV systems...........ETC...

This subject on what is better has really been beaten to death............:deadhorse:

Rich you use your 441, so I value your opinion more then somebody that saw it at the dealer or read about it in the book...

Thall and Lake are my heros! The prince thread sold me on a the MS441 so I went out and got one for myself and never looked back. Great saw, glad I did it. It makes a good companion to my 361. Thanks again to Thall
