went to the dealer today to find a saw to pull a 32-36" bar in the hardwoods so i picked up the 660 and with a 25" bar that thing is a hog and he didn't have a 88- to paw over but could get it for me next week then the sticker shock hit me 1079.99 with a 20 on the 660 and 1689.00 on the 880 these where the before tax prices!
the question becomes are they that much better than the husky equivalent of the 395 and 3120 these will be used to make 20-25 cuts a month. Is used a better way to go? or better yet can a used saw last a couple of years with good maintenance for this kind of duty cycle.

A good used saw is a fine choice.. the problem is finding a GOOD one... At 25-30 cuts a GOOD used saw with good gas and looked after will last "forever..." However.. new or used, one bad tank of gas or careless use, and it's toast...

The 3120 would laugh a 36” bar and 20-25 cuts per month, no problem there. From what I’ve heard from a local tree service that uses only 395’s with 20” bars is that “you can’t hurt ‘em”.

MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.

not to mention more power.

i got my 395 of ebay last year for 700.looked brand new and works awesome.the coil crapped out on me this spring so i freaked.then i found out it was a 2000 model so i settled down.so far the only thing that has given me a problem and i use the hell out of it.runs a 36 no problem.right now it has a 28 incher on it with a stihl skip chain.i love it.660 seems gutless after using this saw. 660 is a nice saw but it ain't a 395.

i ran it with a 36 against my partners 3120 with a 42 and the 395 was faster in the same log.i'd rather have a 395 to work with.

i'm sure the 088 is nice but i hear from guys here that the 084 was more saw.

personally i think that at a max bar length of 36" you will not notice any real difference between a 660 and 880 or 395 and 3120. but anything longer than 36" is where the bigger saw will shine. just my personal opinion, i had an 084 with a 24" and it didn't can any faster than my 660 with a 24" does....just food for thought, i would go with that 660/395 class saw

+1

I can't imagine anyone, short of a PNW pro, ever needing to wield an 880 or 3120 in the woods.

I agree....

In this neck of the woods you would have to look far and wide to find anything larger than an 066/ms 660 .Huskies are nearly non existant,no dealers. I know of two Stihl 084's and one 088 in the area.Combine these with my two 125 Macs and one 2100 Homey, and perhaps some I don't know about and I doubt the large saws would exceed a dozen.

Trunks are my main problem the last two jobs the tree service did where well over 60" at the stump cut. So my 24" 245a is not equal to the challenge I need something that can cut a 12-16 foot trunk this size into something we can get on the splitter. Speed is not and issue for us as we usually devote an afternoon to cutting and splitting these things up. Would a 385 xp or 460 pull a 36" adequately to do the 10-12 cuts needed to reduce these into sizes that can be rolled and maneuvered by two guys?? I know my 245a is 74cc and if i burry the 24" in these hardwood rounds she has not a bunch left. Is the extra 10 cc gonna make that much difference?

I just freakin love it when you can buy it online from canada shipped to the US, but I get forced to take down anything we had online that wasn't a 100 series unit. Husky needs to get their act together and get all dealers in any area that can sell to the US on the same page, either allow the online stuff or don't, but don't half a** it and only partially enforce rules on some dealers but not all.

i hear that bailey's doesn't go through husky USA.

so they aren't under the same rules.norwalk is still selling on line.maybe same deal.

i'd get the 390 before i got the 385.

It's not uncommon to authorize a couple of big national dealers to do internet and exclude everyone else. That way they can claim to have some control over distribution. Husky has really screwed over their distribution base over the past few years, and they will end up suffering for it in the long run. Complain all you want about Stihl, it isn't hard to find a dealer and dealer support. Husky has kind of wanted it all, and it hasn't worked right over most of the country. Too bad, good company, great stuff.

I don't actually know... but I'd find it hard to beleive that Husky would authorize Summitpowertools to ship outside of Canada. There's also the question of warranty service.

So husky is excluding the mom and pops of the world to ship saws over the net yet allowing a select few to do just that? Am I understanding. Warranty work is not my issue with this or any purchase. But I have no husky dealer short of a tsc and lowes to choose from so a 395 xp would not be in the cards if not for mail order.
