I still think you should buy the real deal though.

thanks redbull, it really helps to know how big that thing is. i couldnt tell anything from those catalogue pictures. i somehow thought that the rubber tubing would hang over 4 ft. anyway, i still think that it looks craftable, but im not sure that is the route i will go. maybe if i can get one of them head from fpyontek i could piece one together. My local arorist store carries standard fiberglass poles for pruner/saw, do you know if they are any different than the BS poles?

Same poles. Jameson makes them. Fiberglass is the way to go though. Nothing special about the poles Sherrill sells.

I would get the proper big shot poles. I like the 2 four foot pieces because they fit in the trunk of my hybrid!

Seriously, though. If you get the pantin, you'll never teach yourself how to footlock. Then one day you'll forget the pantin at home or something...and won't be able to climb!

I have the Big Shot with 2 four foot poles, FWIW.

Wait a tick, nick, i kinda remember a post from you about wanting a used pantin from anyone that was willing to give theirs up, or was that some other nick from wisconsin? did you have some footlock epiphany? at any rate, using a pantin conserves energy and does make a lot of sense, so i ended up ordering one. i'm also piecing together a real big shot, so i might end up with both! YAY! So, thaanks for all yalls suggestions, i'll keep everyone posted on how things turn out and what kind of trouble i can get myself in with my new toys.

Even though I have and use a Pantin, I am teaching myself to footlock. You can never have too many tricks in your bag.

Not me! There is another Nick from WI. Maybe it was him.

If I could choose between a pantin and a 64 oz rootbeer float...I'd probably take the root beer float.

should i get a pantin and a big shot

I have both and never use either of them anymore.....It just became more crap that I had to tote around and store. The Bigshot was fun to play with though...

how do you set lines in high trees?

I throw them. In Pa, rarely is the first limb above 60' .

The more crap you own the more crap you have to sift through to find the basic stuff you use day in day out. Anyone still use a "Linetamer" ? sp. ?

no offense, but out of everything, the line tamer really seems like one of those those pieces of "crap you have to sift through". Realing line in by hand seems to work pretty well, but i shouldnt knock it tell i try it, right?

I use my Big Shot almost every job. Sure, I could set my line in a lower limb and work my way up, but why do that when I can set my line where I want my TIP to be in the first place?
