I like how cranes use big slings and straps for big limbs and tops.
I used to loop runners to increase my confidence on turning big limbs over houses and such.
1. attach strap to target limb.
2. Make notch.
3. Attch strap above notch and biner to below notch strap. (ensure steel only and double up on limbs over 2000 lbs.
4. Turn wood and hold using thin notch.Once limb turns and holds re-notch above rigging and fell.(Straps are useful as security incase the wood wont go the way your turning it.Try not to fell limbs with gear.
When rigging tops and heavy loads, I ensure the straps and slings will catch on lateral stubs or I dont use them. Expect bark seperation when choking with slings. Dont leave stubbs for something to hang on.
