today I blew a high volume hose to the cutter wheel motor on my RG100. I smelled it before I saw it shut it down immediatly. There was just enough left in the tank to move it on level ground but not get it on the trailer. I was very luck that I was doing a bit of clearing in a woods and not on nice lawn. Tear down this weekend and all new hoses to the cutter wheel motor next week.

I have not had to change any on my machines. Looks like a job that could not be done without a handful of expensive Snap-on angle wrenches.

I called Rayco service to get the machine pressures before getting new hoses made up. The relief valve is set at 5700 psi. They told me rayco uses 4000 psi hose because the 6000 was too stiff and thick. I went to the Caterpillar dealer hydraulic shop because I've been impressed with cat hose. Cat makes a 6000 psi 6 wire hose that is very flexable and no thicker than 4 wire 4000 psi. It's made for something specific that cat makes that needs hi psi and flexability. It was very expensive,($269 for one hose with couplings) but will hopefully reduce the risk of this happening again. The other two hoses on the cutterwheel drive motor are returns and are much lower pressure so 4 wire 4000 psi hose is fine. THe job isn't as bad as it looks. If you remove a couple of other hoses everything is pretty easy to get at inside.

On a side note I wanted to get the two fiiters while I was there and Rayco somehow blocks their part numbers from being crossed to a Wix or any other filter. Not knowing the microns and flow requirements I ordered the filters from rayco. The spin on filter on the pump is 91 dollars!

That hurts. Hope its not the same filter I get from FleetFilter for $6.07 ...
Wix # 51551 , Napa # 1551
Probably the same filter on the return line to the tank, the filter on the charge pum is a bit different than I've seen before. If a person knew the microns and GPM rating it would be pretty easy to match up.
