That 261 runs sweet...nice job on it

Meh,,just get an aftermarket 262 piston, take out the base gasket,(check squish) ,widen in and out a tad and a mild muff mod and cut like hell with it !!
heres a 261 i did just that to.yeh, that IS one heck of a chunk of oak too !! i had to cut the back side from the top first as the wood was thicker than the 20in bar.

It is easier then you think. I put together a busted up 371XP....Left the base gasket out...thing runs sweet...lots of guts

Got the piston ordered today may have this thing together in a year or two

Replacement Piston for Husqvarna 262

i THINK you can get pretty close to the 262 muffler by opening the 261 and removing the guts. i believe i have seen a side by side comparison done.

A 262 muffler is NON-restrictive. Amazing. I still have to open up mine a bit, just haven't had time time mess with it lately. Runs good, but I can take it much farther than I've got it now. Cool sounding muffler though. Manly.

Need to trim the carb stops as well. Killer saw with a couple hours of work. I paid $125 or 150 for mine, don't recall right now. Nice shape, but I had to drive 3 hours round trip to get it. I just keep pulling out the ported "sawinredneck jr" 350 anymore when I need a little job done.

Thought I would finish up this thread and let you guys know that I did complete the conversion as far as the piston and mm tried to save money as much as I could I think the 2 shoe clutch is a little weak though may have to change it out in the future.

Congrats!! It looks like you saw ended up about where mine is. It has been getting a lot of work the last two weekends!!! First my brother "stole" my 288 from me. Now he has fallen in love with the 261/262 since we have been in smaller wood. I have been relegated to a MM359 with the squish adjusted and this past saturday, I ran a 361 and a 441 for kicks.
