Apple and pear burn GREAT, almost like hard maple, great on a campfire (apple smells good burning, like cherry does). Both are also beautiful wood to work in a woodshop. Pear is sought after by some turners because its so homogeneous and fine grain. Good for carving, as well as inlay and turning. I have used apple in the woodshop, but its a bear to dry, twists up like a pretzel till its dry and stable.

Good luck with your new saw Moze. Saw the Makitas at the big orange box and wondered how they would hold up.

i got a 7900 last week ,i have run it a few time's i love makita/dolmar saws ,i shall be buying more !

Maybe I'll throw the wood on Ebay and see what happens. Anything I get would be a bonus.

What kind of woodworking do you do Woodshop? I have a freind who is a luthier and cabinetmaker. He can do some pretty extraordinary stuff with wood. Helped me build a real nice gate out of cedar. Wish I knew how to post pictures on here...

Which Troll ?

They apparently don't have Harley's in Norway.

Troll, as I said before, I ran an 044 for years. I don't have a thing against the saw. It was a truly great saw.

On the other hand, I gave this Makita a pretty good workout last night, and the saw is superb as well.

But I guess if I was impressed with the Makita/Dolmar, and it's grossly underpowered AND I like Stihl, that must mean they're BOTH grossly underpowered.

Just out of curiosity - to what extent have you operated a Dolmar or Makita?

I have never ran a Makita, nor Dolmar, and I think I stated that quite clearly in another of your resent treads. Test results is what I have been referring to, and I think I made that quite clear too.

And yes; we do have Harleys - but what I stated about that was meant as a joke. :)

Are you to some extent confusing me with DirtTroll?

It may have been DirtTroll I was thinking of. Either way, my apologies, I wasn't looking to start anything...so many opinions flying around...

If you want the want to WAY underpowered poorly designed / made saw buy the makita. Otherwise buy the STIHL. It's not even in the same leage.

It was DirtTroll's comment I was thinking of...sorry about that...
