As far as I and all others know, NOBODY bought husqvarna. if it were true, the Elux website would have a mention of it somewhere. so would Briggs's site. people, PLEASE. stop just saying someone bought another company without some kind of conclusive proof to substantiate it.

Yes, your Honor. You're right, hearsay is not admissible in court and will be thrown out. BTW, I heard Coca-cola works great for lubricating muffler bearings and as a blinker fluid substitute. Any truth to this??

I think Husky nut was asking if it were true--he wasn't writing it in stone.

Who's to say there aren't some preliminary discussions taking place? Such deals usually take a very long time, and involve a lot of tire kicking and lead balloons before anything is close to being finalized. And many times nothing ever comes from the initial inquiry.

Husqmon? Simovarna? Husimovarna? Husimon? Simoqvarna?

If you drink one of the huge cups of fountain Diet Coke it'll clean out...never mind.

The Briggs & Stratton deal makes more sense than the John Deere one. B&S has acquired 5 or 6 companys over the past 2 years.

Oh, for crying out loud!

How old do you have to be to soak up some basic business knowledge?

Publicly traded companies are REQUIRED BY LAW to disclose such negotiations. They take MANY MONTHS. They are ALL OVER THE FINANCIAL NEWS. They require governmental approvals at several levels. These take MANY MONTHS. They are ALL OVER THE FINANCIAL NEWS.

These things do NOT get done quietly!

Anyone who tries to make you think he is a "good source" for such info, and tells you stuff that is not public, is a liar.

Period.

Nope that don't work, tried it yesterday along with a half bottle of EXLAX, still spent the night in the hospital. LOL...Bob

BRM, have you considered switching to decaf?

Bob, see, your mother was right, you shouldn't have swallowed your chewing gum when you were a kid. Really, no :censored:, hope everything came out okay for you.

Anything more than very preliminary trial balloons must be disclosed, and since Sarbannes-Oxley took effect, the penalties can be JAIL time for corporate officers who don't follow the rules. Read the original post:

There's nothing in there about preliminary discussions. It's stated as an accomplished fact. Past tense. Done deal.

Which is all you need to know it's baloney. Somebody with a fragile ego (Husky's "good source") wants to make himself seem important because he "knows" something that nobody else knows.

Which only shows he knows nothing.

So I guess yesterday's rumor about Ford secretly buying Chevy is also false?

This is almost getting funny. Husky, Briggs, Ford, Chevy, the Federal Government, who's going to be the first to work NEVR DULL into this thread?

Actually I have a little experience with these kind of rumors. I work in a Chrysler dealer, a few years ago we heard a rumor that Mercedes was going to buy Chrysler, non of us beleived it until it happened. I HAVE heard the Briggs/Husky rumor from more than one source so ther has to be a least a grain of truth in there, it may be no more than just talking about "what if". There are no coincidences in business, there is a reason E-lux spun Husky off.

Problem is that they haven't spun it off quite yet, they are according to interviews with Husqvarna/Electrolux management looking to put it on the stock exchange as a separate company in early 2006, but it might as well happen 2007 or never.

At the moment Electrolux outdoor products (such as Husqvarna) are making more profit than refrigerators, hoovers, laundry machines. According to business papers they (E-lux) will spin off Husqvarna to make a big profit and then focus on the core business of Electrolux. If they want to make a big profit the best would be to put Husqvarna on open stock exchange, hope that the value will rise alot, and then they might start talking to Briggs&Stratton, or whatever.

After that it is rumoured (yes, rumoured;) ) that Electrolux owners (such as the Wallenberg family) might pull Electrolux from the stock exchange.
