Today seems to be the worst -33 wind chill -- we are so sick of the cold -- I find myself dreaming and thinking of the early 60's when I was in the Canadian Navy and we were in the warm climates on a beach with a big bottle of really cheap rum

Ontario south eastern Ontario -- this is the coldest I can remember for very cold for a long duration -- our old bones seem not to be able to handle it like we used to.

Better there than here , we've been warmer than normal and about half the normal snowfall. Predicting upper 40's for next week or 2. No complaints from me, skiers and snow machine folks aren't happy.

In the 50's -60's it was global ice age combined with a themo Nuclear winter ( cold war and such) Now I have to listen to a new generation spouting global warming- it's all just smoke and mirrors for some to make money out of nothing. The planet cycles up and down, is affected by its obit around the sun and the sun's own cycles as well. Almost forgot the other celestial bodies have a minor roll as well. Then add in the volcano eruptions and the megga tons of material thrown into the upper atmosphere ( which the talking heads tend to ignore). and yep things change a bit. Not that long ago there was a massive under water earth crust shift and volcano erruptions which had an effect on some of the major sea currents ( similar to the jet streams) and those sea currents also affect Jet steams. So then your weather patterns change.

You are right on.

I do believe the weakening of the ozone due to natural and man made gasses has a small effect too. But it's the warming and cooling trends/weather patterns that control most of it.

Better day today only -11 -- looked at tomorrows forecast and wind chill at -27 -- at least we get one day warmer.
Wood is to come this weekend -- just hope it is good .
Have a good day all

You guys need to embrace the weather. That's the advice from a hooktender when we were out in a gale with horizontal rain. Embrace the weather, cuz you sure can't change it. And yes, I have lived where it got to -20 something and that was not unusual. Long johns, insulated boots, layers, hat, gloves and maybe a neck gaitor, and keep moving.

Today? I wore shorts on my walk cuz we're having an unusually warm winter and it was 50 out.

That's just friggin' stupid.
I'll live with it... but I sure-as-hell ain't gonna' hug 'n' kiss it.
Your hooktender must'a been droppin' acid... was he wearin' an earring and a tie-dyed t-shirt??
I'll bet he even painted the aluminum skin of his Airstream in psychedelic... right??
(Or was it a VW Micro-bus??)

Heck, I've been here... just ain't had any time to post.
Been spending most days out'a the office, been helpin' my son move, been movin' snow, and I'm settin' up a new wireless network at home with new computers. I'm movin' from Windows XP into Windows 7 (yeah, I know, now there's Windows 8... screw that, I'll wait for more bugs to be worked out). Looks like the next couple weeks are gonna' be just as busy and I only have one of the two new home computers set up (tweak the heck out'a the OS), so I likely won't be posting much. Been using 7 in both my work machines for the last couple years so I'm comfortable with my OS modifications and ready to deploy it at home now.
The bright side?? Busy means the winter (especially February) passes much faster.

Sometimes when it warms up to say 10 F I run around barefoot in the snow. It's good for the circulation.
It's all relative, if it's minus 40 out, minus 30 feels so much warmer.

When I think about you guys living up north in a cabin it reminds me of this movie, which is a good one.

Ah yes, Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowatt, a classic yes. Here we nicknamed him Hardly Knowit.
Speaking of movies, one of the best ones I've seen is Jack and the Beanstalk produced by Shelley Duval starring Jean Stapleton and Elliot Gould. It's a kids movie but very entertaining.
