cut some nice standing dead doug fir, some of the bigger rounds are punky about a 1 inch ring around the outside, besides that its perfect firewood. its been split and laying in the sun for over a month now. any problems from burning punky wood?

It will burn. And problems??? Not really. It lost a lot of the potential BTU’s. It’s ok for kindling when really dry, like “turns to dust” dry when you try snap it in half.

One inch in the center... I wouldn’t fuss. 50% or more punky I’d leave I in the woods.

I have some some dead standing red oak n find some is punky in spots. Like a few already stated....it is messy when it dries ...but it does ignite well.
Anymore.....I try to take as much off at the splitter...time consuming...but worth it to us to try n keep the mess down when burning it.
