Posting just because I didn't see a lot of this kind of fix wondering if it's because it's a bad idea or if it's just not done much.

I've got some screws that stripped on the starter housing see image below

Where I work we've got tons of these little heat-set inserts

Gonna try using those. I know the plastic is able to melt and it'll hold the insert well enough, what I don't know is if the threads in the brass are going to allow the screws to vibrate loose while the saw runs. Thinking of putting some Loctite 222 (Purple) on it just to ensure that it won't vibrate out, but can still be disassembled with regular tools

Has anyone used heat-set inserts to fix their saws in the past? let me know what you think...

I have used them on Stihl TS420 demolition saws for the air filter cover.

In my case, the factory inserts wallowed out the plastic housing. I wanted to stay with the factory thread size/fasteners so I had to use a PA6 plastic epoxy to hold the inserts in place. Still working to this day.

Should work a treat in your application. Just need to have the proper wattage iron to heat them up fast and press in straight!

Gotta believe they will work well. Thread them on a screw, heat them with a propane torch, press them in. The screw prevents plastic from entering the threads.
My go-to is turn down a bolt to fit into my soldering iron, and thread the insert onto the bolt, press it in. Helps to have a mini-lathe in the shop!
