I have been fixing saws and OPE for friends as of late...word of mouth is slowly spreading, and believe it or not, I have been asked for a business card a few times. So, I am asking some advice of you folks that do this for a living.

I like saws and 2-strokes in general. I like cutting trees and being in the woods. I like the extra spending money I make. I am unsure if I should advertise as a small engine repair service, or as a "saw service". I mean, I really only want to work on saws/brushcutters/trimmers/blowers/etc, but don't want to limit my exposure. I would also like to run my saws for money - clearing lots for building houses/cabins.

What do you guys think?

What do you have to loose? List on your card what you want to do, and don't do things you don't want to.
You can design your own card on your computer, print a few out to test the water. Don't use that perforated business card paper (looks cheap), use a good card stock & a paper cutter.
I once made some cards out of 1/8" pine I cut on my band mill. Everyone wanted one, but way too time consuming.

Here's some of the sayings I've put on my cards in the past.

Might near anything for a BUCK!

You call, We haul. If you can't truck it, f:censored: it. You didn't need it anyway.

Great! Thanks for the input! Keep it coming guys, and gals.

I get my business cards from Office Depot online, you can design them
online, order them , etc. you get 1,000 for @ $13, black lettering on white, and they are high quality.

Talk to an accountant that is reputable(actually wants to keep you out of jail) and familiar(keeps current) with your city/township, county, state, and Federal taxes and applicable regulations. Lots of people do it under the table around here but the number is getting smaller as there has been a up-swing in getting caught. After talking to the County and State, I decided it was not for me. Hopefully it will be different where you are. Good luck with the endeavor.

I like your pine board idea!

My dad sold cars for years and one of his card designs had this phrase," I am somewhat of a bull$hitter myself but occasionally I like to listen to a professional, please carry on."

If you use the pine card idea get ready to spend a lot of time.
I had a stamp made at the end, they have to be cut to size, sanded, sealed, stamped, and sealed again. Earlier versions were burned with a wood burning pen.
I live in a tourist town, and people were picking them up as novelties (free souvioneers).

Well, I finsihed the design and layout of my business cards! I am going to call and check with some local printers tomorrow to get a price quote and get the ball rolling. At the very least - I might make enough to write off all my saws and barely show a profit!

A friend of mine recommended Vista Print. You can get your first 250 business cards free. Just pay 5 bucks shipping.

You have to use their designs for the freebies... but it was a quick, cheap, easy way to get started for me.
