I have an old 440 that I just made a 440/460 hybrid. I put a brand new carb on it when I did the swap because when it was just a 440 I couldn't ever get the carb adjusted correctly, or so I thought. The 440 piston was also absolutely shot so I never really thought about the issue being anything other than that or the carb. But now with a brand new jug, piston, and carb it still does it. Is it my clutch springs? Or does anyone have any idea? It's holding compression at 160, starts right up, but it just runs and runs and runs. Even when the engine audibly sounds like a decent idle the chain will not stop. It's really starting to piss me off so any help would be appreciated haha.

Had the same thing with my 044; as advised here, I replaced the clutch springs, the old ones got too weak apparently (and cleaned the clutch in the ultrasonic, too). That completely fixed the problem. Local Stihl dealer was sort of surprised to have someone just ordering the springs, in stead of replacing the whole clutch assembly. That's how I prefer to do things, though :) .

I had that happen from water rusting it.
I’ve seen quite a few of them like that. Guys will power wash their saws and then send them to me rather than wait a couple months for me to notify them that I’m ready. By the time I get to them the bearing has rust on it and the clutch drum won’t turn

I thought all you Saw Yodas had hot tanks so you never have to work on dirty stuff?! :p

Funny how a lot of people are quite happy to give you a saw so caked in crud you can't even find the screws, let alone get the driver bit into them... & then will take exception to the bill because they "didn't want the thing clean, it just needs to work"
