Guess it depends on where you live and what the traffic will bare. Northern tool has the HT 131 14" bar for $669.99 and Sohars has the same saw with a 12" bar for $749.95. lol
I went with echo extendable pole saw too. I like 2 strokes. https://www.newhavenpower.com/Echo_PPT260.html

Just called the local echo dealer and zero stock. But he did quote me $569 and he could order it.
Too bad I own the 131. Live and learn.....

Yeah last saw I bought ms462 asked for the box , it was man I’m sorry stihl doesn’t allow us to give ya the box , kinda pissed me off then I was thinking wtf do I need the box for anyway !? Bought the damn thing to use , this dealer was also echo , stihl and husky
According to them one of the biggest stihl dealers in are state are or region , I bought it home dumped there fuel out and put some non ethanol red armor mixed 40:1 and a sure shot cover and red beard filter and gave her a hot supper . Forgot all about the stupid box 😛😛😛

There are plenty of Unboxing videos involving chainsaws. But like the OP, no dealer in my area will give up the box. Tis impossible to imagine that the local area distributor would collect the boxes and refill them with new saws.

Ok, I called the published number for Stihl which goes to Bryan equipment in Ohio. I told the guy I want to get a direct number for Stihl the corporation because I wanted to hear the answer come out of the horses mouth. He asked me what I wanted to know and I told him.
His reply " You will never get a box because thats Stihls business model ". I said I dont care, I want to hear it come from the horses mouth anyway.
So he gives me the sales and marketing number for Stihl corporation of 757-486-9147.
Annnnnnd that number rings and immediately disconnects. Shocked ? Nope. Did he give me an incorrect number to steer me off into oblivion ? Who knows and at this point who cares. Again, screw Stihl. Every gas power tool I own is Stihl but that ends today.
As other posters have said " it's just a damn box ".
But thats not the point. Im aware that its just a box. Its the principal. You know what they say, if you don't like it, buy somewhere else.
Thats good advise that I will take from this point forward.
Stihl willing to loose customers over a box. WTF are they thinking... Buh Bye Stihl and good luck with your control freak attitude no box business model.

They would not and could not refill a box. They cut the bar code section off the box that contains the serial and model number info on it and give that piece of the box to you when you get the equipment. That in itself makes this box thing even crazier that it already is. Stihl can roll that box up real tight and stick it up their a$$.

Called up , had an answere in less than 5 min , it’s not policy or protocol to withhold boxes , was told by stihl it depends on areas distribution centers how equipment is boxed and multiple units may be packaged together , and shipped together resulting in no box to be provided by the dealer , I asked 2 times , he repeated no such policy or protocol exists to withhold boxes from end user

Sounds right. When I bought my 400c, and asked for the box, I was told the boxes are coupled together. 2 saws together. I'm not sure if that means 2 saws in a single box, or two boxes joined together.

Do all STIHL dealers have this policy?
I like my Stihl saws but I do not go back to a place once they leave a bad taste in my mouth, especially if they are arrogant and overbearing type Ah's.

Hindsight is always 20/20. I always try to do as below. Keep my money in my pocket just as long as I can. I've noticed they will treat you nice until they get your coins in their pocket.
You should have asked for the boxes while you still had your money in your pocket.

A few of them will do it most wont ! The one I know who is old school will give me the box if I want it. The rest of them no. Ask them first.

That telephone number is a direct link to Bryan Equipment Sales in Ohio. Just a Stihl dealer and is the exact number I called the first time and asked for the Stihl corporate phone number. Its just a dealer. they have told me one story and told you something different in the span of a few hours. I believe absolutely nothing they say at this point. This dealer is clearly shady too. We may never know the real answer. I just watched a video of a dealer comparing the 194 to the 201 and behind him was a ton of individual chainsaw boxes on their racking in the back room.
Stihl dealers are going to lie. Thats the takeaway for me. Now try calling back to that number and ask them if they were truly the Stihl corporation or if they are a dealer. Because thats what I asked and was told they are just a dealer. Google Bryan equipment in or close to Cincinnati Ohio and you will clearly see that they are just a dealer that intercepts calls for Stihl. I honestly doubt you would ever be able to get someone from the Stihl corporation on the phone. It's clear to me now that I was given a bogus phone number for the Stihl corporation to send me off into oblivion. I wonder what this dealer had to do to get all the Stihl 1-800 calls directed to them. Im retired from the phone company and oddly enough, Cincinnati Bell Telephone LMAO. I know what it takes to redirect all these calls and how this works. Everything about Stihl is starting to smell very rotten.

Holy ****, its a Stihl box in the wild. It's like seeing a Bigfoot.
Apparently I have a great dealer. Tell him what saw I want and he hands it to me IN THE BOX. All he does is register it ( I just registered my stihl power washer because he got a phone call) and take my money. Always less than MSRP. The pressure washer wasn't in the box because I took the last one they had on the floor.

Great point about the gift thing. I had not thought about that. From the responses I got from the dealers around here, I think they would tell you that your not getting the box even if it is for a gift. The dealers here ( all of them I have bought from and thats 4 ) all play the same game. You WILL NOT see the saw you are buying until you pay for it and register it either at their register computer or the new screens they have set up by the saws to get parts and register the product. They tell you they are putting it together while you pay for it and get it registered.

Then they take you to the tech area where they already have it assembled and fueled. Then they try and show you how to start and use it. I used the word " try " for a reason.
Here is the game they are playing. Once a tool has had fuel in it , its non refundable. Its typical Florida scammy unethical sh#$.

This did NOT work out for the Ace Hardware near me though. On the same day I bought the HT131 I was at my nearby Ace buying a HT56ce.
They played the same little game by walking me to the register to pay for it, then escorting me to the screen mounted to the wall on the chainsaw wall so I could type in my life story to register it, then took me to the tech area to " try " and show me how to use it.

The guy took me outside with the saw and it would not start. He pumped the primer bulb about 30 times. I told him 4 or 5 times was good but he continued. He then starting yanking the sh&^ out of the pull cord as hard as he could. IT'S AN EZSTART , insert "try" right here. Shocked he didn't break it. I know from experience that they break easy. He finally got it started and it died immediately like it was running out of fuel or was under a bind. He kept doing this for the next 10 mins.
I finally got pissed and said " since I've paid for it and I own it, let me look at it. I removed the extension that has the chainsaw head on it so I could see the drive shaft to see if it was turning. I told him to start it so I could see. Nope, its not turning during the few seconds it was running. I told the guy that it was either running out of fuel or it was bound up at the power head.

Then the owner of that Ace pulls up in his pickup truck and the guy says " thats the owner, he will get it running ".
Of course he had the same result and now wants to take it to the bench to see what's wrong.
He takes the main shaft out of the power head and puts it back in. I asked him if he wanted to start it with the drive shaft completely off the power head to eliminate it as causing an issue and he said it was not necessary. Im thinking WTF are you doing. All you did was pull it out and shove it right back in.
Troubleshooting doesn't seem to be his strong suit.

Now we are outside and he's saying its gonna run good now. And low and behold, the exact same issue. Now I know in my head this is most likely a fuel delivery issue.
The owner says we need to work on it to get it running and claims it might need a carburetor and he can get one asap.
At this point, I've had enough and tell him I didn't pay for broken saw and you need to refund me right now. " I'm not going to be standing in my yard with a brand new saw and getting the results you are getting right now ". He's saying nothing and just starring at me. He knows I'm not backing down.

Heres the problem he has. Its been fueled and registered to me and now he can't sell it as new.

I'm glad I insisted on a refund. I came home to researched more on the pole saws and decided to buy the 131 instead because it had 3 feet more reach, even though I was hating the price.

One thing is for certain around here, if you ask them to show you the tool runs fine before you pay for it, that will NEVER happen.
Who else can get away with that ?
Still as a company and their dealer network is abysmal. I personally dont know how they have been able to gain customers for this long.
ACE hardware in Nebraska City, NE I saw a Gal Buy a MS251off the shelf and walk out the door with a can of fuel in one hand and the saw in the other.. (NO BOX) This was in March 2022. Might have been the owners daughter but I SAW IT HAPPEN.

Good for you and you are lucky to have an honest dealer up there in PA. They don't exist here in the sunshine state. If they could loose their dealership, then this dealer in PA surely wouldn't risk his business over a box. That pretty much proves that there are lying dealers all across the nation. At the end of the day, I dont think stihl really cares wether they loose customers over BoxGate or not. I'm ok with it. I'm no longer one of their customers going forward.
