Was cleaning up this carb with a toothpick and toothbrush. I pulled it off a picked-over parts-saw. Wanted to check its gaskets and condition, when I noticed the gouge/chunk missing from the carb-body.

It seems like the metal is undermined enough to not form a complete seal with the gasket. Maybe I'm wrong here but it seems like a hair or two difference.

I'd rather not throw money at a kit for it just to vac test it as the diaphragms and gaskets were close enough to done.

Any experiences with this?

if it's just that corner, I see no problem. I usually go over it with a smooth flat file (raker file) to make sure there are no high spots.

I also use 220 grit sandpaper on a piece of 1/4" thick glass to flatten surfaces. Don't do this on the pump surface with the thin, raised beads. You need them to seal the areas around the pump.

Right on. Appreciate the input.

I'll double check it when I get time. The surface was rough. I'll also have to confirm that the screw/lock-washer will seat properly, as the chip goes into the slot.

Call the shops and see what the carb kits are going for.

I'm not sure what you mean. The screw seats against the outer surface of the pump cover. Is the cover damaged as well? Looks like you're only losing about half a thread from the chip.

It probably is only half of one thread, though I need to double check.

That screw was the loosest of the eight, with only some of them being in snug.
