Im thinking about using card stock. I work in printing and get tons of this stuff free. Im going to spray it down with loctite high tac sealer. Has anyone tried something like this? I have gasket stock but Im frugal and always looking for good ways to save a buck. The stock I get is a little thicker than a cereal box.

Personally if a regular premade gasket is available why risk the rework if a cereal box gasket fails. Isn't cardboard stock porous to gas and oil.

So is Some sheet gasket. The card stock is to be sealed. It is just a general question.
I guess if the cardstock is saturated with a sealer it would be impervious. Who knows what the new paper stock is made of. I guess gas would not effect the paper stock so it would maintain it's thickness and seal air leakage without retightening.

Im always looking for ways to repurpose stuff. A synthetic would be best but I haven't found anything yet. I've read litho aluminum sheeting works but I wouldn't know where to find it without paying for it. Again general question just for fun.

From the local newspaper print shop (used to get sheets of the stuff and repurpose it for beehive lids).
Mind you, newspapers and print shops are getting hard to find in this day and age!

The spacing of the bolt holes would concern me. You need get a gasket soft enough to crush over the spacing of the bolts. Not sure how stiff the case is.

The oem gasket is paperish. My only concern is it is biodegradable and may break down over time. I really like the graphite style gaskets used on 4 cycles but again finding sheets to repurpose.

Unfortunately for me it's all print that is going away. I've been in the industry for over 25 years and have had to relocate a couple times. The last time is going to be the last time. I'll find another job before moving again.
