I was thinking about purchasing 2003 morbark with a 185 hp cat motor. I have never used this style motor before. I was wondering if anybody had any info on how relieable the cat motors are on the mobark chippers.

Never heard anyone complain about a CAT motor!

The good thing about CAT is there is surely someone around every major town that can work on one.

Same on the availibility of mechanics and definately stay away from the Perki-piller if it's a true Cat go with it.

I have 1 perkins and 1 so called perki pillar LOL the 1st perki pillars did have some problems but the new one we have in a 1590 is running great. That morbark with the cat should be fine. How many hours are on it?

Heat is the only killer I have heard of that plagues CAT. We used CAT engines in you LMTV (light Military Tactical vehicles) they last tons of miles and in some really bad conditions but we have to very careful to let them cool down after long runs and to make sure they don't get too hot. Just works of advice. You should however like has been previously pointed out before have no problem with finding anyone to work on one. They are very simple machines to work on. Good machines all around.

hard to do better than a CAT.
i was never a perky fan but my buddy has one on a 1230 vermeer and it's pretty reliable.the rest of the chipper is a different story.
