I'm planning to buy a CBN wheel for my grinder - probably a Baltic Abrasives wheel which has been mentioned in other threads.

What do you do to maintain the wheel? What kind of stone do you use to dress the wheel when it clogs? Do you use one wheel to sharpen 3/8 and .325 pitch chains or do you use different wheels? What thickness wheel do you use for which chains?

There are special, white, cleaning sticks made for CBN wheels. Different than the silicon carbide bricks used to dress conventional, vitrified wheels.

The place that you buy your wheels from should be able to supply one. Otherwise, they are available online.

Thanks for posting that.

I was wondering what to use for my carbide chain grinder wheel.

All I use actually is CBN wheels The 'trick' if you want to call it that is precleaning of the loop prior to grinding as CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) wheels don't clog up when grinding teeth, they clog up from oily swarf on the cutter teeth so precleaning of the chain loop is really necessary. I preclean mine in a large capacity heated ultrasonic cleaner with simple green and water solution at 120 degrees or so for 30 minute, then a quick rinse in tap water. After grinding they get a dip in motor oil and good to go, Rarely, if ever clean mine and I use the white soft stone supplied with the wheels.

Never heard of 'Baltic Abrasives, sounds like an Amascon deal. I get mine from an outfit in Minnesota. I even grind the rakers on a chain grinder with a wide CBN wheel on a dedicated grinder.

Great suggestion to clean the chain first. Baltic Abrasives was suggested in another thread. It is a Lithuania based company and they look better to me (website, mostly) than other companies.

What is the brand and company in Minnesota that supplies your wheels? Do you use different size wheels for 3/8 & .325 pitch chains?

www.diamondwheelinc.com Where I buy all of mine and they also sell diamond impregnated wheels for sharpening carbide tipped chainsaw loops. Same wheel for 325 and 3/8. Different wheel for 404.

Their website breaks them all down by tooth size as well as arbor size on various grinders. Not all grinders have the same size arbors.

I prefer to buy American always or if I possibly can I should say.

They ship real quick and the wheels are very securely packaged as well. Come in a heavy cardboard box with the wheels set in a foam cutout.

Nice folks. I prefer calling them versus their website and they take phone orders, no problem.

I agree. Just ordered one. Woman was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Told them I got a rec from someone on this website (no name, I doubted you used your screen name when ordering.). Thanks.

I have mostly Baltic wheels including a diamond wheel for carbide and a dedicated raker wheel. The other brand…given to me…is inferior, imo.
They also do custom wheels and super fine grit for race chain applications.
I currently have their Hexa chain prototype and Darius is sending me another in a finer grit.
Quality products, great communication and customer service.
They can also rebuild worn out wheels for less than new.

The cbn wheels I use on the woodmizer BMS250 are oil cooled (I use 100% mineral oil) so the spray cleans as its being used. The CBN's I use on the chainsaw grinder is the dry method, no oil. So what I do is wipe the cbn wheel after use with a damp cloth with some mineral oil on it. The oil impregnates any build up and when I go to use it again, the build up comes off while sharpening the first couple of teeth.

Again, I prefer buying domestic over imported Finally, I didn't ask for your opinion. The OP asked about the CBN wheels are where I got them and I replied. Nothing more, nothing less singinwoodwack r.

The main reason why I rarely comment on this forum. Everything turns divisive and I really don't have time for divisiveness.

Have a nice day if you can...

3/8" and .325" cutters require a different wheel to obtain the correct profile. You're better off trying to clean your chains before grinding rather than cleaning your wheel afterwards.

I first purchased a Diamond CBN wheel and I didn't like the way it cut. It was just too fine and tended to burn the cutters with even a light touch. Tried the "white stick" cleaner with no improvement. The issue was from day one with clean chains. I then purchased a Baltic Abrasives wheel and it's been outstanding.
Baltic wheels aren't come chi-com "Amascon"crap as some have suggested, but a quality unit with real customer service if you need it for some reason.

Beg to differ with you... Not quite China but close... Radikiai, Kauno raj., LT-54347 Lithuania certainly not made in America but certainly 3rd world and certainly communist. I'd rather deal with a domestic company and I do. Far as service is concerned, I believe Minnesota is easier to call in case of an issue than Lithuania last time I checked...

I'm done commenting as I don't have the time nor the inclination to joust with you and candidly, don't care to anyway.

The OP asked a question and I replied. he asked me where I get my wheels at and I also replied to that. Nothing more, nothing less.

What a load of horseshit, Geeze. Get a life.

I believe that the Diamond brand CBN wheels are manufactured overseas, with a sales office located about 20 miles from where I live.
I first purchased a Diamond CBN wheel and I didn't like the way it cut.
I was also disappointed with the Diamond Wheel brand CBN wheels. Sold them on the AS trading post and went back to standard, vitrified, wheels.
