Cedar removal we did this week...job took 3 days in all thanks to the gear on site. if my ring count is anywhere near accurate the tree comes in at 173 years old. 6ft dbh, but 7ft lower down at its widest before hitting the root flare.

Man that looked like a fun removal. It was a beautiful specimen. Why did it have to be removed? It looked pretty healthy. Did that lean just develop?
Great job and that was some massive wood.

we did try and talk the customer into a thin/deadwood and tip reduction on some of the larger limbs....this had been going on for about 4 months but they were dead set on removal.

once in the crown however the tree told a different story.....some very dodgy unions up there, one branch of about 3ft diameter had split and was held on by approx quarter of the wood, and propped onto a branch below it of the same dimensions which was beginning to fracture...you could see straight through the hazard beam....failure was imminent on that one for sure. i walked away happy we did the right thing

That surely was a bigun!

I didn't really get a sense of it size until the pic of you(?) hanging and cutting with the spar looking like it swallows you up:

Nice job. I would have asked the same questions as beastmaster. I'm glad it turned out to be the right thing to do.

Looks to be a very nice house on a nice piece of land.

That cedar(?) next to the one you took, you think maybe 1/2 to 2/3's as old?

im not sure really. it certainly wasnt as big, but wasnt in open ground like the one we removed...i wouldnt be surprised if they were planted at the same time.
