Certification from ........

Is anybody here working on studying for the tree certification from TCI? I know the National Arborist Association had the program before turning it over to TCI and TCI are currently upgrading it to their standard but I think some may already be studying for it.

Like Brian said, just a name change, probably some sort of marketing ploy to boost membership.

It was to better represent their membership and the fact that more people recognize TCI then NAA.

Not all TCI members are arborists, and they represent the Tree Care Industry...

That said, the TCIA does not have any credentialing program, that is the ISA's pruview.

There may be an ISA cert exam there that will be proctored by that local chapter, but one may have problems with the ID portion if not studied in non local species.

Get the ISA study guide and take the test localy.

I am ISA certified and like John Paul said I don't no of TCI offering a certification course. certification really helps your resume or customer recognition if you have your own buissness. plus you have to get continuing education credits to stay certified. Which is their attempt to keep us learning and involved in the industy. It was expensive but well worth it in the end.

What TCIA offers are training modules for companies to give their employees.

Before the name change, the National Arborist Association had put out a home study program for professional arborists called ... "Basic Arboriculture" manual #1 and Advance Arboriculture. It was two huge folders books with about 16 chapters total if I remember correctly. You had to complete the first manual with multiple-choice questions then buy the second one to continue, The NAA never attended to classified this as certified but was more of a recognition of some sort and those who passed were given a plaque, ID card along with some other things which I don't remember. As I understand it, TCIA are working on this same program but are upgraded it to their standards and should be up and running soon, I'm just surprise no one has any info on it.

I wouldn't worry about an NAA/TCIA course unless you are hurting for education. I would focus on the ISA cert. Not that it is life changing, but that is another argument....

My next certs will be in Germany I have to get the SKT-A to legally climb and the SKT-B to legally climb with a chainsaw.

Rocky, you're right and I do know NAA is TCIA, I just assumed since the accreditation link on the TCIA website wasn't activated yet, they were still working on the study program. Guess i'll hang on and wait.

Legally, I think that was true for Germans. My old employer only had one German climbing pre-SKT. The rest of us were foreigners. I was the only American. There was also a Macedonian, Bosnian Serb, and a Greek guy. Maybe the German didn't count - he was Bavarian after all

I'm sure that Strasser and others were running saws in trees long before the SKT. Paul Howard is there as well - maybe he fits into the foreigner part???
