took it to the local shop and they said it was a .404 and laughed at me when i asked if they had one...it has a 51 on it and a 30 on the chisel.....the chain is just at the end of the adjuster to long won't tighten....where can i get a chain like this?
btw it's on a 32" bar....

If memory is correct:

Pitch= .404
Guage= .058
Cutter= Semi chisel (old style)

You said they "laughed"?

Find someone who knows chain, and is willing to look it up. It's in many catalogs via reference charts, with the new updated relacement version.

Chain has probably worn itself enough that it is longer.
Could simply have it shortened if it's in safe condition.
Bar rails, and drive sprocket should also be examined....by someone who knows.

That means....a dealer doing the job of a.......professional.

The trouble is in our neck of the woods, no one carries .404
Also it is unlikey anyone would have the tiestraps, as removing
a link would put you back in action. The problem is, it can be
ordered, but usually you have to buy a '25 roll.
A dealer that sells Oregon should be able to order a specific
loop however. Find another shop, or some members here could
hook you up with a loop.

Sounds like Oregon Chains? Check out this link...

I do not know about you, but when I go to a store, and the folks there laugh at me, I tend to find somewhere else to spend my hard earned money....

Bailey's should be able to hook you up with the correct chain.

I also agree, if the the chain is in good shape, you could always shorten it by a link or two and you could extend it's life.

.404 semi

Jeff S. ,had some .404 x.058 semi,I bought 16 ft of it from him,last fall.Baileys as of the same time,didn't have and I just got a new catalog,and it wasn't listed .I,myself am looking for 144 drive links of .404 x .058 full chisel,skip or full comp.

We have 165 drivers of 51AJ full skip, square ground chisel and 1159 drivers of 58L full comp, round ground chisel. Both sell for $.24 per link.

If the sprocket needs replacing which is certainly possible if a stretched chain has been run on it, look to the possibilty of converting to standard 3/8. It may need no more than replace the sprocket nose if the bar is so equipped.

.404 is standard as well.. people just don't seem to be carrying it as much these days..

they actually still sell a half inch pitch chain... it's just 80 gauge.

hey heviarti would you have any old mac parts?..like a muffler for a 550 and a fuel line and a clutch spring for a 10-10a?

randy duncan has 10-10 fuel lines up on ebay. His ebay auctions are the only surefire way to get partsd from him... unless you want to call ohio every day for three weeks.. If i remember correctly the 10-10 A is a lefty, and i don't keep many lefties. (less'n of course i can find an sp125...)but there are some 10-10 clutch guts on ebay as well.

I do have a 250 muffler in good shape. need it?
