Having a 2 story house I can't see myself getting up on the roof inwinter to scratch at the soot, so I use a mirror to check it from the basement and add that powder stuff to the fire about once a week, and voila!! Clean as a whistle... it all falls down to the cleanout and I don't have to climb...
Just my 2 cents worth.

Picked up my rig on Flea bay.....

Inexpensive...fairly good quality.

Mine was a mess this year...had bad wood last season. Wet and green.

Got about a cubic foot of creosote...single story home.

Ihave 2 story home + basement and have the same set up you are talking about. THere is a bunch of junk in/around the cleanout in the basement(stove is on the first floor). Is the creosote that falls down to the basement a fire hazard?

I realize I risk being ripped to shreds for asking this, but I guess I should know...thanks in advance:cry:

All the soot that falls down should be cleaned out, the reason I feel is should you have a chimney fire, burning globs of creosote will fall onto it & ignite it, then you have a real hot fire down in the basement too. Hot enough to break cement blocks.
