I have a 55 rancher that revs high after releasing the throttle but it does it inconsistently. It stops after engaging the chain brake or running it into a piece of wood. It didn’t start doing it until after a few tanks of cutting brush. I did just switch back to mixing my own non ethanol gas instead of buying pre mixed. I don’t think it’s the idle adjustment because it doesn’t do it all the time. Not sure if it’s a fuel issue, maybe some air leak, or weak clutch springs?

does your chain spin at idel without the chain brake on?
No, I feel a little dumb now but somehow the bolts for the carb worked loose so I’m assuming that’s my issue. They thread into plastic so they were probably stripped from the previous owner. Going to order new parts and some new fuel line. Any chance you know what size fuel line it takes? What currently is in shrunken.
