I replaced the boot in my free homelite chainsaw and put it back together. When I spin the chain in the cutting direction by hand, it clicks on the sprocket teeth. when I spin it backwards it doesn't . Is it the sprocket? is it the wrong size chain,(the chain and bar were seperate when I got it) or is this normal. Thanks

Sounds like you may have a worn sprocket. I have one on my 1-42, thats worn to the point of being nearly 3/8 pitch instead of .404, it makes the same noise.

I agree, worn sprocket. I hear the same clicking noise and feel some binding when the chain is pulled forward but not back. A new sprocket showed smooth operation both ways. It seems the rim type doesn't suffer as much from this compared to the spur when wear sets in.
