I’ve been doing a lot of research on different chainsaws to replace my old Husqvarna 42 and I ended up buying a Echo CS-4910 (which I love).
But while doing research I found a lot of the comparisons are comparing apples to oranges. They’ll have 50cc vs 55cc vs 59cc which was very annoying. No one compared the Echo 4910 or 490 vs MS271 vs Rancher 450. Which are all in the same class.
I found this very frustrating.
Opinions?

It is sometimes difficult to find straight up comparisons.

Consumers reports was/is famous for that.
even in the 70’s they compared the Mac 610 (60cc) verse some 40 and 50cc saws and as a teen I know it wasn’t right.

Well, if they all have the same bar length, then they’re the same. Right?

Look, a 16" chainsaw! Just like the Echo 310 and Stihl's MS170! Well, except for the ported 272 top end. But it's still a 16" saw, so there's that.

Look, it's doing 16" chainsaw stuff! Just like a Husqvarna 435!

Kidding aside and to OP's original point, I would agree that most chainsaw comparisons are apples to oranges, mostly because the people reviewing them don't know what they are talking about or what to compare. Even when they narrow it down to something other than bar length, it is usually price or, perhaps, CC if they at least have some clue of what they're talking about. Generally things are better here, but even once in a while folks go all stupid, suggesting that some value saw like the 590 Echo is a better choice for a guy than an MS194t, forgetting to factor in that all he wants to do is prune his apple trees.

In the end, hoover up the information that's out there and make your own best educated guess of what's best or at least best for you.

My opinion of those 3 saws… the Echo is the ugliest but best built. The 271 and 450 are good saws and despite being clamshells, are very durable if cared for. They all run about the same. The Husqy would probably be the smoothest but not sure. I’ve run the other 2 but not the Echo, just for perspective. I like Echo saws though.
