I have a craftsman 358.352110. This is a very old saw. I took apart the pull recoil start and I cannot put it back together. In which direction do I coil the rope and how does it hook to the metal coil itself.

Thanks

Fabio,

Go to this link - http://www3.sears.com/ - and key in your model number. You can then select the Engine 1 list. An exploded view of the starter assembly can be found by clicking on the 'Diagram' radio button. It's not a great diagram but it may get you in the ball park.

Hope that helps, if not maybe somebody here that's worked on that model will have some advice.

If you look at the rope rotor (starter pulley) as it is installed in the recoil housing, the rope would wind clockwise and come straight up through the hole in the housing. The coil spring will have a tang in the center that attaches to the inside center of the rope rotor. You may want to check the spring to make sure that the tangs on the start and finish of the winding still exist.
