i was just wondering if anybody else does it. my cb manual recomends every 3 years, i've had the unit 6 years now and i did change the water 3 years ago with soft water (rain water) the water that drained out looked very clean and no sediment.
i use the cb rust inhibitor and their little ph kit.
it just seemed a waste of time.

at least i know where the drain plug is now,
it was on a differant side than what the manual showed ...

do you leave the owb drained for the summer beerman?

2 or 3 times during the summer i turn the pump back on for a day at a time just to circulate the water through everything.

I suppose if it's just water it wouldn't be a big deal, but if you are running some sort of antifreeze mix it could get expensive fast.

yeah, antifreeze would be expensive.
i just run water with 1 gallon of rust inhibitor (about 50 bucks)
it has worked well so far

Woodmaster says new water and chemical very year and do it in the spring along with a warm up after the change. Not sure why they want the water changed, maybe its worn out? LOL. Best guess is the chemical gets used and to get the proportions right you need fresh water and chemical. Anyway the chemical for my system is about $20 and the water is almost free. Purdy cheap insurance against a rotted out boiler shell IMO.
